Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold finds the perfect way to stop Andrew Robertson

There’s a new way to spell ‘formidable’ and it is: ‘A-n-d-r-e-w R-o-b-e-r-t-s-o-n’ (sorry).The Scotland left-back has made something of a name for himself in recent years as being a clinical creator, alongside his good friend and full-back counterpart, Trent Alexander-Arnold, but it seems he’s turning his talents to goalscoring now as well.Watch Liverpool Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Last season, the pair combined to create 23 goals in the Premier League (Robertson with 11 and Alexander-Arnold with 12). To put things into perspective, that’s more in one season than Manchester United attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard has produced in 117 appearances. Are they really good or is he just extremely poor? We’ll let you decide.

Aside from having Jurgen Klopp frothing at the mouth to keep them motivated on matchday, the pair seem to have devised an extra incentive amongst themselves in the form of an internal ‘who can create the most’ competition (or something with a punchier line).

And it seems Alexander-Arnold has found the perfect way of stopping his friend from winning…

Newcastle’s Allan Saint-Maximin tweets something that the Toon Army will love

Newcastle United are having a pretty strange season thus far. They’ve won just two league games, but those have been against Manchester United and Tottenham.Despite the fact that the fans have had a number of complaints this season, there are still some things to be positive about at St James’ Park.Watch Newcastle United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

One of these bright sparks is Allan Saint-Maximin. The French winger was brilliant against the Red Devils this weekend, completing four dribbles two key passes, and his Twitter post after the match will only make fans love him even more.

Saint-Maximin, who joined this summer for £16.5m, said that he feels happy to be playing on Tyneside before signing off his tweet with the hashtag #ProudToBeAGeordie.

The Newcastle fanbase are one of the most supportive and loyal in the country, and Saint-Maximin will earn all the adulation he desires if his performances on the pitch and behaviour off the pitch continue in this way – he has already spent some of his free time contributing at a local fans’ food bank.

It’s fair to say that Saint-Maximin has settled into his new surroundings rather quickly, and if he continues to show this type of commitment to the team he will quickly become a fan favourite.

Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong was brilliant for the Netherlands once again

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Frenkie de Jong dropping a masterclass performance is hardly newsworthy at this point.

The 22-year-old Dutch star has taken the Catalan stage by storm ever since his arrival at the club in the summer.

De Jong has settled quite nicely at Barcelona and has been an important piece of Ernesto Valverde’s jigsaw throughout the 2019/20 season.

So far, he has played in all of the games, recording ten appearances across all competitions and managing to score and assist once in the process. But one thing was peculiar about the coach’s decision regarding his young midfielder.

Back at Ajax, his former club, De Jong was predominantly used as a defensive midfielder or as a “pivote” as they would call it in Spain. For the 89 games Transfermarkt have in their database, De Jong spent 51 of them as the team’s defensive midfielder and only 16 as a more advanced, central midfielder.

This suggested that he might be the ideal Sergio Busquets replacement at Barcelona but Valverde had other ideas. So far, out of the ten games we’ve seen of young Dutchman in the Blaugrana kit, he was deployed as their central midfielder in seven of those while registering just three games as their pivote.

Even though it seemed rather weird deploying him in a position that doesn’t necessarily come naturally to him, De Jong seems to be thriving and embracing that role even for his national team.

Watch Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale answer the internet’s weirdest questions in the video below…

When the Netherlands faced Belarus, Barcelona’s star was deployed on the left of a midfield three in a more advanced role, just as Valverde likes it as well.

And unsurprisingly, he didn’t disappoint.

The Netherlands won the game 2-1 and De Jong deployed four key passes, created one big chance and warranted an 8.3 rating according to Sofascore. He also had 118 touches on the night, maintained 92% passing accuracy and completed four out of four long balls.

Not to mention that he was a real threat going forward, successfully dribbling past his markers on five occasions and winning eight ground duels.

But even in that more advanced role, he still mustered three interceptions and one tackle to his name in the process.

The great news for Barcelona, however, is De Jong’s ability to influence the game in a role that Valverde seemingly prefers the young Dutchman in.

It still remains to be seen if he can replicate that going forward.

QPR: The numbers behind Nahki Wells’ impressive start to 2019/20

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Under the management of Mark Warburton, Queens Park Rangers have started their 2019/20 Championship campaign in strong form to emerge as contenders for the play-offs, and the performances of Nahki Wells will be giving the west London side faith that they really can return to the promised land of the Premier League.

The R’s have scored 18 goals so far in the current campaign, the joint-fourth highest of all teams in the division, and central to the club’s goalscoring record has been Wells – the Bermuda international who has scored six goals.

Wells’ goalscoring prowess, combined with Jordan Hugill’s six strikes, is propelling the club towards the realms of the play-offs, but it is Wells who is catching the eye with his clinical performances.

Whilst Wells and Hugill have both scored six league goals, Wells has done so having played just 519 minutes in the league, compared to Hugill’s 852 minutes.

The 29-year-old is also taking more shots in the box, averaging one every 34.6 minutes, while Hugill is taking a shot from inside the penalty area every 47.3 minutes in the league.

Wells is playing a hugely important role for Warburton’s side in 2019/20 – not only scoring goals but doing so at a ridiculously clinical rate, holding the best minutes-per-goal (87) of any striker in the Championship to have scored more than three goals.

If the striker is able to continue scoring at this remarkable efficiency, then the west London outfit could truly be in with a chance of returning to the English top-flight and ending a six-year absence in the process.

Leeds fans have their say on Aleksandar Mitrovic after hat-trick for Fulham

Every club in the Championship would probably do anything to have a striker like Aleksandar Mitrovic at their disposal. It should come as a surprise to absolutely nobody that the Serbian is at the top of the Championship scoring charts this season as he’s scored 11 goals for Fulham after just 13 games. One team that would certainly love to have a player like Mitrovic is Leeds United.Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The Whites are crying out for a top-quality striker as Patrick Bamford has now gone eight games without scoring for the Yorkshire club.

Leeds create so many chances and fashion 16.9 shots per game so it’s incredible to imagine the number of goals the Serbian would score if he was playing under Marcelo Bielsa.

After Mitrovic’s hat-trick against Luton Town on Wednesday night a number of Leeds fans took to Twitter to exclaim how much they’d love to have the £22.5m-rated man at Elland Road.

Here’s what the Leeds fanbase have been saying on social media…

Arsenal: Fans love comments made by Gabriel Martinelli in interview

Many Arsenal fans have responded on Twitter after the club account tweeted about an interview with Gabriel Martinelli.

@Arsenal tweeted quotes from the young Brazillian, where he describes himself to the Arsenal fans so that they know a bit more about the player.

He said (via the Arsenal website): “Sure, you’ve seen me play but you probably don’t know too much about me. So let me tell you a little bit about my story so far.

“I guess the most important thing is that I’ve always known I would be a footballer. My family and I always believed I could do it. They boosted my confidence and have supported me, no matter what.

“I’m proud that Arsenal has put its trust in me, so I will always give my all to help this team reach the top. That’s where it belongs.

“What they can expect from me now [Arsenal fans]? Someone who always gives his best, his maximum, and who always plays with his heart. That’s the most important thing you need to know about me.”

Martinelli joined Arsenal in the summer from Ituano in Brazil, where he had managed to score 10 goals in 34 appearances after debuting in 2017, according to the BBC.

Despite being only 18, the Brazilian has managed to rack up a decent amount of football under his belt considering that he is in his first year in England. The attacker has scored four goals in five games for the club – with just two of those starts.

Martinelli was able to bag a brace and an assist against Standard Liege in the Europa League as well as two goals against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. His other three appearances have been from the bench in the Premier League, playing against Newcastle United, Bournemouth and most recently Sheffield United.

Unsurprisingly, Arsenal fans loved to hear what they did from the young attacker, and messages of support poured in for the teenager, as you can see below…

Aston Villa’s Wesley can be an added nuisance to Man City’s makeshift defence

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Aston Villa recorded back-to-back victories for the first time this season by defeating Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 last weekend.

Dean Smith needed late heroics from Matt Targett as the left-back slotted home in the 94th minute to send the west Midlands club up to 12th in the league table.

Now they head to Manchester looking to continue their rich vein of form, but it will be no easy test as City are the reigning champions after all.

Aston Villa’s summer signings’ performances so far this season are rated in the video below…

They have faltered in recent times, losing to Norwich City and Wolves, meaning they are currently six points off league leaders Liverpool.

For all of their riches of talent from Raheem Sterling to Kevin De Bruyne, there’s still one area that Villa can exploit.

On the Chalkboard

Pep Guardiola has suffered a bit of an injury crisis in defence since the season started with Aymeric Laporte expected to be out for an extended period following knee surgery.

John Stones was even injured at one point while Nicolas Otamendi just can’t be trusted, forcing the Spanish boss into playing two defensive midfielders in central defence.

Against Atalanta in midweek, the two-time Premier League winner saw his problems get even worse as Rodri, one of the two drafted in to play centre-back, picked up a hamstring injury.

Therefore, it seems likely that Fernandinho and Stones will be the partnership this afternoon, and that’s undoubtedly a recipe for disaster – the Englishman has been thrown into the deep end having only just returned himself, and the 34-year-old is hardly a natural defender.

This is where Wesley can pounce – he’s in fantastic form right now so he can be a massive nuisance to that makeshift backline.

Villa’s club-record man has netted four goals in seven matches while over the last two games alone, the 22-year-old has managed eight shots on goal.

His rugged nature, which could prove vital this weekend, has seen him win four aerial duels in the same time frame, per WhoScored.

If he keeps this up at the Etihad Stadium, then he may well hold the keys to Villa returning back to the Midlands with some sort of result.

Lots of Liverpool fans have shared their hope in seeing Jurgen Klopp start Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain against Manchester City in their top of the table clash on Sunday.Pep Guardiola’s Sky Blues travel to Anfield at the weekend looking to deal the Reds their first defeat in the Premier League this season, with a win for the reigning title-holders enough to half their deficit to the Merseyside outfit.Liverpool have taken 31 of a possible 33 points thus far in the top-flight, while two defeats and a draw for Man City have left the 2018/19 champions playing catch-up.Every Premier League club’s WORST player is named and shamed in the video below…Oxlade-Chamberlain has only started two of Liverpool’s league fixtures so far this term, with both coming in the opening five rounds of games. The 26-year-old returned to the opening line-up against his former side Arsenal in the Carabao Cup last week and scored from range to make the score 3-4, having also delivered the cross which saw Shkodran Mustafi net an early own goal.He later replaced Georginio Wijnaldum in the 65th-minute against Aston Villa on Saturday, and managed to record four shots, one successful dribble and five passes in the final third during his time on the field, per WhoScored data.Liverpool face KRC Genk in the Champions League on Tuesday night, but many Reds supporters would like to see Oxlade-Chamberlain make another start in the Premier League come the weekend. Some have reflected on his prior performances against Man City to justify their views, after the three-time FA Cup winner scored and assisted against the Sky Blues in his last top-flight meeting with the Etihad Stadium natives. Here are some of the messages shared…

Arsenal’s predicted XI against Vitoria de Guimaraes

Arsenal face Vitoria de Guimaraes in the Europa League on Wednesday, as they look to maintain their perfect record in the competition.

With the Gunners topping the table, having beaten the Portuguese opposition in their last encounter, coming from behind to win 3-2, there could be 10 changes made to the team that drew with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Here, we try to to predict Unai Emery’s starting XI for the game:

Emiliano Martinez has started all five of Arsenal’s cup games so far this season, so it seems natural that he will stay between the sticks for this game.

Sead Kolasinac has been replaced in the team by Kieran Tierney in the last two league games, so he could come in to play in the Europa League for the first time since facing Eintracht Frankfurt in the opener, while Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding can expect to keep their place from the last European tie.

Hector Bellerin is still working his way into the Arsenal team, having played both of the most recent Europa League games, but is still yet to feature in the league, so a start against Vitoria would be useful for that progression.

Lucas Torreira is the only player who started against Wolves to feature in this lineup, with the Uruguayan having started all three Europa League games so far this campaign.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Joe Willock have also had regular involvement in European competition this season, with the latter already having scored twice.

Nicolas Pepe has come off the bench three times in the Europa League this campaign, with his brace in the reverse fixture against Vitoria being his best Arsenal moment to date, so he could be started to give him a boost.

Bukayo Saka has only featured once in the Europa League this season, but it was some showing he gave, getting a goal and two assists in the 3-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt, so with the 18-year-old not having started either of the last two Premier League games, it could be worth putting him in again.

Gabriel Martinelli has taken the cup competitions by storm since joining the Gunners, scoring seven goals in four appearances, so it seems likely he will be given the chance to build on that.

Arsenal may help Merih Demiral fulfil his former manager’s prophecy

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Arsenal could make a move for Merih Demiral during the January transfer window, as reported by Bleacher Report.

What’s the story?

Demiral only moved to Juventus from Sassuolo in the summer of 2019 for a fee of €18m (£15.4m), but could be set to make a move again due to a lack of game time.

The Turkey international has managed just one solitary Serie A appearance this campaign, though there were positive signs to be had, as he won 5 aerial duels, while making 1 tackle and 3 clearances.

It is suggested that Arsenal will be kept in the loop if the 21-year-old becomes available at some point during the winter window.

The Gunners are also reportedly interested in signing RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano.

Fulfilling a prophecy

Demiral has been a nomadic figure in 2019. Initially he joined Alanyaspor from Sporting Lisbon in the January window before he moved to Sassuolo on loan.

His temporary move to the Serie A outfit was made permanent in the summer but he almost immediately moved to Juventus just four days later.

If he was to make a move to the Emirates, this would see him fulfil a prophecy set by Sergen Yalcin, his manager from Alanyaspor, who 90min report to have said: “Merih Demiral will be a Premier League player within 1-2 seasons. The Turkish national team has its new centre-back for the next 10-12 years.”

It would be slightly bizarre if Arsenal were to sign Demiral as they would be the fifth club he has been involved with in 2019.

There are positive signs from his time at Sassuolo regarding his ability though, as he averaged 1.7 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 5.6 clearances per game.

When Arsenal’s defensive issues this campaign are taken under consideration, he may be able to make a difference for the team.

If the Gunners do indeed decide to swoop in January, Yalcin will proudly be able to say “I told you so”.
