West Ham: January exit for "extremely tidy" player could now happen

There has been a suggestion that West Ham United could move to offload an "extremely tidy" player of theirs in the January transfer window.

Who could leave West Ham?

Hammers head coach David Moyes faces the prospect of losing many of his current squad in 2024, as a plethora of West Ham players look set to leave upon the expiry of their contracts next year. Indeed, Tomas Soucek, Pablo Fornals, Ben Johnson, Vladimir Coufal, Michail Antonio, Conor Coventry, Aaron Cresswell, Lukasz Fabianski and veteran defender Angelo Ogbonna's terms all run out in the next 10 months, though the likes of Soucek, Coufal and Antonio's deals contain further one-year options (West Ham contracts – Transfermarkt).

As such, the window's anticipated re-opening could represent an opportunity for West Ham, technical director Tim Steidten and sporting director Mark Noble to move on a few members of this crop and generate funds before they depart for nothing. This is especially true for the likes of Soucek, as reports suggest that the Czech Republic international could in fact be sold if terms over a new deal aren't agreed soon (Football Insider).

Meanwhile, it has also been reported that Johnson, Coventry and Fornals will definitely leave when their contracts run out. The latter could even depart in January if Sevilla step up their interest, but West Ham are set to demand around £10 million (Claret & Hugh). There could be some serious changes afoot at the London Stadium pretty soon, with journalist Paul Brown now sharing an update on Cresswell and his particular situation.

Aaron Cresswell transfer update

The left-back, who has become more surplus behind Emerson despite his contribution in recent years, could leave in January too if his minutes in the first team don't pick up. That is according to journalist Paul Brown, who told GiveMeSport:

aaron-cresswell-transfer-gossip-west-ham-nottingham-forest-cooper-kieran-trippier

"It's possible that Aaron Cresswell leaves. At one time, he was a key part of this team and a guaranteed starter pretty much every week. That's not so much the case anymore.

"I think he probably still has a role to play this season, so it'll be interesting to see how many minutes he gets. I don't think he's particularly pushing to get out, but he is not getting any younger and will want to be playing for a team that can give him regular minutes.

"If he is not getting that by January, it may be best for all parties if he does make a move."

The Englishman has made over 330 appearances for West Ham in all competitions since joining from Ipswich Town, with journalist Sam Delaney once hailing the "extremely tidy" player.

Soccer Football – Europa League – Round of 16 Second Leg – West Ham United v Sevilla – London Stadium, London, Britain – March 17, 2022 West Ham United fans celebrate in the stands after the match REUTERS/Tony Obrien

"At left centre-back, he’s like a secret weapon, because he’s extremely tidy in defence but, usually, no one is expecting your centre-back to be a threat going forward," said Delaney to the U Irons podcast in 2021.

“He takes up that deep position on the left and receives balls from whoever’s playing at left wing-back and delivers beautiful crosses from there – which is not always a position that the opposition are ready for you to be attacking from."

Everton were bled dry by "unlucky" Koeman flop who cost £1.17m per game

Everton are a club that has been financially devastated in recent years, largely through the thoughtless leadership of Farhad Moshiri and his countless questionable decisions.

Although they tried to offset around £170m of their losses to the COVID-19 pandemic, which admittedly devastated the entire footballing world, it was not enough to prevent their relegation rivals from the 2021/22 season writing to the Premier League in a desperate last-gasp attempt to secure safety.

Although it turned into a failed venture, as Burnley and Leeds United have both since been relegation across separate campaigns, they have since penned a new letter alongside Leicester City to the Toffees’ prospective new owners warning them of their reignited intentions to sue, dependant on the result of an ongoing case.

Whilst that is a worry for another day, the task has now fallen onto Sean Dyche to once again navigate them clear of relegation, with a squad delicately assembled for a cut price and easily good enough to ensure their top-flight status remains.

Bill Kenwright and Farhad Moshiri talk prior to an Everton game at Goodison Park in the Premier League.

Much of their higher earners have been desperately offloaded in recent years to trim down a heavily bloated outfit, whilst some still linger around. However, with the sheer volume of failed transfers made over the last decade has made it a tough task to accomplish with speed.

Who is Everton’s worst-ever signing?

Due to the frequency of their high-profile failures, it therefore makes it even harder to pin down a sole victor for the title of their worst-ever signing.

After all, it is depressing to note the sheer number of stars signed for huge fees who have left on a free. Gylfi Sigurdsson, Yerry Mina and Jean-Philippe Gbamin are just three examples of duds who offered no return.

Then, whilst the likes of Michael Keane and Andre Gomes still remain at Goodison Park, they provide little in the way of quality on the pitch. The latter hasn't even played yet this season to sum up his individual woes.

However, Ronald Koeman managed to achieve a patented blend of the two with Yannick Bolasie, who marked a huge acquisition poised to usher in a new era of free-spending under their Iranian owner.

Ronald-koeman-everton

With an endless bag of tricks, and enough pace and dynamism to uphold a front line on his own, understandably excitement was high as the former DR Congo international made his Merseyside move.

How many games did Yannick Bolasie play for Everton?

It was to be a truly ill-fated deal, with a promising start almost instantly cut short following an innocuous challenge from Anthony Martial.

The 34-year-old was left in a heap in front of his home crowd after just his 15 appearance in Royal Blue, with their worst fears set to be confirmed. It was an ACL injury, and one that would drastically alter the future of a once exciting career.

Bolasie would only manage a total of 32 outings for the Toffees, scoring a desperately disappointing two goals and assisting a further four. Writer Alex Keble would brand the winger as “really unlucky” following the surgery, and rightly so.

Then, speaking in 2021, the former Sporting CP loanee would outline his turmoil regarding such a torrid period: “I’ve always just wanted to play football. Hence why I’ve probably killed myself going out on these loans from Everton.

“Other players might have said: ‘Actually, I’m coming back from my injury and I’ve got a five-year contract. ‘I can sit here while I build myself up slowly.”

In the end, his desperation to return would fall short, and he eventually departed for Turkey; his last stint in football before enduring a recent unemployed period.

How much did Yannick Bolasie cost Everton?

Whilst the on-pitch failures of his doomed move to Everton were frustrating, the fiscal burden of the deal was what truly disappointed, as it arguably offered a precursor for what was to come.

After all, the £28m expended marked an astronomical fee, matching the then club-record fee spent to bring Romelu Lukaku to the club. The hope was that he might strike up an instant partnership with the Belgian, who remains their all-time top scorer in the Premier League, but that was obviously not to be.

In the end, Bolasie left for free, whilst the current AS Roma star recouped a sizable £75m to offset some of the more lucrative transfer duds they would oversee.

What was Yannick Bolasie’s salary at Everton?

Naturally, a lofty salary would come alongside such a huge transfer fee, given the 6 foot 2 speedster was expected to underpin an exciting new regime.

However, as was the case with that upfront figure, it unsurprisingly backfired terribly. That made his five-year contract and £75k-per-week salary somewhat daunting.

Although what he might have taken from the club was slightly offset by loan spells with Aston Villa, Anderlecht, Sporting CP and Middlesbrough, in total Bolasie would drain the club of a further £9.7m, bringing his total cost up to £37.7m.

To emphasise just how dreadful a deal this turned out to be, when comparing this figure with the number of games he ended up playing, Moshiri actually expended £1.17m for every appearance the 50-cap star made.

Did Yannick Bolasie deserve to earn £75k-per-week?

Realistically, Bolasie did not deserve to earn anything near the salary he amassed. But, the injuries that would plague the skilful maverick were far from his fault, and he was poised to shine at Goodison Park.

After all, the campaign before making the switch saw the Eagles enjoy an ace who scored five and assisted a further four in the league, dressing up such impressive figures with a play style to get supporters raving.

In the end, they saw such a prospect taken from them, and across his entire five years on Merseyside, he would not amass the same figures earned in just one final year at Selhurst Park.

How much did other Everton players earn?

Whilst that £75k-per-week earned did not make Bolasie their top earner, it was certainly not far off from those within the squad during the 2016/17 term, via Capology.

In fact, that title somehow went to Morgan Schneiderlin, who garnered a truly ridiculous £120k-per-week, even more than Lukaku’s £80k-per-week.

The former Palace winger instead sat in third, narrowly ahead of stars such as Kevin Mirallas, Ashley Williams and Leighton Baines, the latter of which is widely regarded as one of the club’s most legendary figures in recent memory.

O time é maravilhoso. O esforço que o time fez é maravilhoso.

Contra o Del Valle criamos cinco ocasiões e marcamos quatro gols. Estou contente com todos. Trabalhamos as finalizações a cada dia, pois é importante. Mas o que acontece no campo, acontece – analisou Dome após o 1 a 1 no Maracanã.

Back to cricket after Warner-de Kock saga

Australia have a chance to take an unassailable lead, South Africa have an opportunity to build on an improved performance in Durban. That’s all that matters in Port Elizabeth.

The Preview by Brydon Coverdale08-Mar-20183:03

Moonda: South Africa might look to play Bavuma for de Bruyn

Big PictureWe all know how Durban ended up but for the second Test in Port Elizabeth, much will depend upon the local conditions. For example, what are the acoustics like on the stairwell at St George’s Park? Does the layout allow for quick u-turns? And what are the precise locations of the security cameras? Every venue is different, and in order to be ready and adaptable, Australia would do well to familiarise themselves with the conditions before the Test.Okay, enough of that. Steven Smith has ruled a line under the stairwell saga, but then again, lines ruled by Australia can tend to have unpredictable shape-shifting qualities. The fact is, there is only one thing to be thankful for in regards to the David Warner-Quinton de Kock issue: that the break between the Durban and Port Elizabeth Tests is only three days. Imagine if this had happened at the end of the Port Elizabeth Test, with an eight-day break before Cape Town. Imagine a full week of this. At least now we can all quickly focus again on the on-field action. Hopefully.Australia lead the series 1-0, and have the chance to take an unbeatable advantage in Port Elizabeth. No member of their side scored a century at Kinsgmead but four of the top six managed fifties, and with the ball Mitchell Starc especially was in serious form. South Africa’s batting had higher highs – Aiden Markram’s 143 was a magnificent effort in a fourth-innings chase, and de Kock bounced brilliantly back to form after lean run – but they were also far less consistent. Still, a 118-run win for Australia might have reflected the difference in the sides in Durban, but there were enough signs from South Africa that the balance of power could change at any time.Form guideSouth Africa LLWWW (last five matches, most recent first)
Australia WWDWWIn the spotlightHow can it be anyone but this pair?Whatever Quinton de Kock said in that stairwell, he can be assured of hearing plenty of words coming his way when he bats at St George’s Park. But the uncomfortable fact for Australia is that de Kock found some much-needed touch in Durban, after 15 consecutive sub-50 scores in Tests. His 83 might not have been enough to pull off a miracle win for South Africa, but had Markram stayed with him at the crease, who could say what would have happened?Perhaps the most fascinating outcome of the stairwell saga is that David Warner now finds himself one demerit point away from a suspension. That means that he will need to be on his best behaviour for the remainder of the series, which could be a challenge if any further provocation comes his way. Warner was nicknamed “The Reverend” when he became Australia’s vice-captain and tried to tone down his behaviour, but perhaps a monastic vow of silence would be wise while those demerit points hang over his head.Team newsSouth Africa are still debating between keeping Theunis de Bruyn or bringing back Temba Bavuma, who is batting pain free but is still working on getting full power back into his grip. South Africa are also weighing up their bowling combinations, but could only consider bringing Lungi Ngidi into the XI if they drop one of the existing quicks.South Africa (possible): 1 Dean Elgar, 2 Aiden Markram, 3 Hashim Amla, 4 AB de Villiers, 5 Faf du Plessis (capt), 6 Theunis de Bruyn, 7 Quinton de Kock (wk), 8 Vernon Philander, 9 Keshav Maharaj, 10 Kagiso Rabada, 11 Morne Morkel.Australia have confirmed that they will make no changes from the side that won in Durban.Australia: 1 Cameron Bancroft, 2 David Warner, 3 Usman Khawaja, 4 Steven Smith (capt), 5 Shaun Marsh, 6 Mitchell Marsh, 7 Tim Paine (wk), 8 Mitchell Starc, 9 Pat Cummins, 10 Josh Hazlewood, 11 Nathan Lyon.Pitch and conditionsThe pitch is expected to be somewhat slow and low, and a drying wind on match eve might dry it out a touch more. Spin and reverse swing are likely to play their roles. No rain is forecast for the match.Stats and trivia Australia have played only one Test in Port Elizabeth in the past 20 years – and lost it, in 2014 Morne Morkel is three wickets away from the milestone of 300 in Tests Should Steven Smith fail to score a century in Port Elizabeth, it will make a stretch of three consecutive Tests in which he has not made a hundred – last time that happened, it was against South Africa in Australia in 2016Quotes”We just want to get back to playing good cricket and make sure we play them on skill and get the emotion out of it.”
“It’s a big game for us, and we need to make sure that cricket does the talking. We’ve spoken behind closed doors about the lessons learned and try to improve them. We need to make sure we get back into the series and make it one-all.”

West Ham Could Still Sign 25-Year-Old Striker This Summer

West Ham United's summer pursuit of Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke has been much-publicised of late and a new update suggests they could still get their man.

Do West Ham want to sign Dominic Solanke?

The 25-year-old has really matured as a footballer in recent years, not quite making the grade at Liverpool as a youngster, but excelling for Bournemouth as time has passed.

Last season, Solanke scored six goals and registered seven assists in the Premier League, having netted an incredible 29 times in the Championship the previous year in Bournemouth's promotion campaign, and he has one in three games this time around, which actually came against West Ham on the opening weekend.

The Hammers have been strongly linked with a move for the Englishman before the summer transfer window ends on Friday night, seeing him as someone who can come in and provide competition for Michail Antonio, with the veteran attacker in a rich vein of form at the moment, scoring twice in three league games in 2023/24.

Now, a new update has emerged regarding West Ham's hopes of signing Solanke – one that suggests they could still strike a deal before the window slams shut later this week.

Dominic-Solanke-Bournemouth

What's the latest on Dominic Solanke to West Ham?

According to an update from Football Insider, West Ham had scouts watching Solanke in action against Tottenham on Saturday afternoon, suggesting a late-summer move for him could still be on the cards:

"West Ham talent spotters watched Dominic Solanke in action for Bournemouth on Saturday, sources have told Football Insider. The Irons are keeping close tabs on the striker, 25, as they work on signing a centre-forward before the window shuts.

"West Ham scouts assessed Solanke against Liverpool the previous weekend and then once again in Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat to Tottenham."

Solanke could be just what West Ham are looking for this summer, at a time when things are looking hugely exciting, having racked up seven points from their opening three matches.

That includes highly impressive wins at home to Chelsea and away to Brighton, with the east Londoners spending the Declan Rice money wisely by bringing in the likes of Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse and Mohammed Kudus.

In Solanke, West Ham could have the ideal person to come in and add squad depth, quality and goals to their attack, and while he may not find it easy to oust Antonio immediately, he could be a great long-term replacement for him.

Read the latest West Ham transfer news HERE…

The former Liverpool man possesses similar attributes to the current Hammers star, in terms of physical presence, pace and finishing ability, and Frank Lampard hailed him as a "high talent" earlier this year. Meanwhile, Gary O'Neil described him as an "absolutely massive" player for him during his time as Bournemouth manager.

Building a great squad has to be the aim for West Ham, with the huge money received for Rice's signature helping with that, and if Solanke could arrive before Friday's cutoff, it would feel like another significant piece of business, giving David Moyes' side the firepower to mount a genuine European push in the Premier League this season.

Man City vs Newcastle: Head-to-head record, key stats & more

There was a time in history when Manchester City vs Newcastle United was nothing more than a standard Premier League fixture that wouldn’t catch the eye of most.

Now, though, this is a clash of two of the richest clubs in the world. Since Man City’s takeover in 2008, they have won it all, most recently winning the treble.

They’ve used the benefit of Sheikh Mansour’s billions and been on an incredible journey that City fans could only dream of back in the late 1990s when they were competing in the third tier of English football.

Today, Newcastle are at the very beginning of their own path to bank-rolled glory. PIF’s 2021 takeover ended 14 years of disappointment and underachievement under the ownership of Mike Ashley and immediately transformed the Magpies from perennial underachievers to expectant competitors for the game’s largest honours.

While this particular fixture isn’t exactly a clash of two giants of the game right now, it will be in the not-too-distant future. It is, though, a battle between two heavily wealthy football club owners who are only interested in one thing: world domination.

The latest meeting between the pair came last month in match week two of the 2023/24 Premier League season. It saw City narrowly defeat Eddie Howe's side 1-0 thanks to a wonderful strike from Julián Álvarez, who is being widely tipped to become one of the best forwards in the world.

Ahead of Wednesday evening's cup clash, Football FanCast takes a look at how the stats rack up.

Newcastle vs Man City: Who has the better head-to-head record?

It is quite fitting that the record between these two clubs is almost as equal as their respective financial standing in the game.

Man City have enjoyed far more success over Newcastle in recent seasons, tipping the record in their favour, but before City’s fortunes changed in 2008, there wasn’t a dominant side in this fixture since their first-ever meeting in 1893, when Man City were known as Ardwick FC.

Since 2005, though, Newcastle have only managed to beat the Citizens twice in 34 attempts.

  • Newcastle wins: 72
  • Draws: 41
  • Man City wins: 76

Newcastle vs Man City: Who has more wins at St James’ Park?

Quite surprisingly, despite the recent gulf between the two sides, Newcastle’s home record against Man City has been relatively strong.

Man City have failed to win in four of their last eight visits to St James’ Park, with their most recent loss coming in 2019 when goals from Salomon Rondon and Matt Ritchie cancelled out a first-minute Sergio Aguero opener.

That said, it was City’s first defeat at St. James’ Park since September 2005, when Michael Owen’s first-half goal secured a 1-0 win for the Magpies.

  • Newcastle United wins: 52
  • Draws: 20
  • Man City wins: 23

Newcastle vs Man City: Who has more wins at the Etihad Stadium/Maine Road?

Man City have been incredibly strong on their own patch in recent years, especially under Pep Guardiola.

While they’ve been dominating the domestic game, even the strongest of Premier League sides have struggled to take anything away from the Etihad Stadium. So it’s no surprise that Newcastle’s away record against Man City is vastly inferior to their home record.

Their last win at the Etihad came via a 2-0 League Cup victory in 2014, while they have never won there in the Premier League. Their last away league win against Man City came in 2000 at Maine Road; Alan Shearer’s 74th-minute goal was enough for the three points.

  • Newcastle United: 19
  • Draws: 21
  • Man City: 52

Man City vs Newcastle: Who has the better cup record?

Unlike the gulf between these two sides in the Premier League era, the cup meetings between Man City and Newcastle have been a more equal affair.

They have met in cup competitions on 16 occasions, most recently in 2020 when Man City were triumphant in St. James’ Park to advance to the FA Cup semi-finals via a 2-0 victory.

They’ve also met in two finals, once in the FA Cup (1976) and once in the League Cup (1955), with one victory a piece.

Given the expectation surrounding Newcastle’s future under their new owners, we might expect more clashes between sides in domestic finals pretty soon.

  • Man City wins: 6
  • Draws: 3
  • Newcastle wins: 7

Man City vs Newcastle: Who has the better Premier League record?

It should come as no surprise that Man City have been utterly dominant in this fixture throughout the Premier League era.

Newcastle actually won the first Premier League meeting between the two sides on New Year's Day in 1994, and City only managed one top-flight victory over the Magpies before the turn of the century,

Overall, though, the Citizens have rather enjoyed playing Newcastle in the top flight, winning 29 of their 46 Premier League meetings and losing just eight.

Since that first meeting, City have scored an incredible 97 goals and kept 21 clean sheets, compared to Newcastle’s 43 and eight respectively.

  • Man City wins: 29
  • Draws: 9
  • Newcastle wins: 8

Man City vs Newcastle: What were the last 6 meetings?

19th August 2023 – Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United: City edged past a stubborn Newcastle United side, who were coming off the back of a thumping 5-1 victory against European-chasing Aston Villa.

The dazzling Phil Foden, who stepped in to replace the injured Kevin De Bruyne, set up Julián Álvarez to lash home a well-struck effort from just inside the area. The Argentine's 31st-minute goal turned out to be the winner as the visitors failed to really land a glove on the treble winners.

4th March 2023 – Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle United: This was a game that many considered a potential banana skin in City’s attempts to usurp Arsenal at the top of the league.

Newcastle needed all three points to close the gap on Spurs in the race for the top four, but City’s victory, via goals from Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva, took them to within two points of leaders Arsenal, and the rest is history.

21st August 2022 – Newcastle United 3-3 Manchester City: This was arguably the game that announced Newcastle as a completely new proposition to Premier League opposition following their takeover.

Having survived relegation just a few months earlier, this was a new dawn for the Magpies and they proved they could compete so early on in their journey by holding the Premier League champions to a thrilling six-goal thriller, despite taking a 3-1 lead.

8th May 2022 – Manchester City 5-0 Newcastle United: The most recent rampant City victory over Newcastle in the Premier League era. Goals from Aymeric Laporte, Rodri, Phil Foden and a Raheem Sterling brace humbled the Magpies at the Etihad.

19th December 2021 – Newcastle United 0-4 Manchester City: With Newcastle just two months into new-found wealth under PIF’s ownership, there was understandably a newfound sense of excitement at St James’ Park.

However, goals from Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling brought the Magpies faithful back down to earth with a bump.

14th May 2021 – Newcastle United 3-4 Manchester City: Played behind closed doors, this one will go down as a classic. Emil Krafth was the unlikely scorer of Newcastle’s opener – the first time they’d scored first against Man City for almost six years – but found themselves going in at half-time locked at 2-2.

Four crazy second-half minutes saw Joe Willock put Newcastle ahead before a Ferran Torres brace secured the Spaniard's hat-trick to ensure City took all three points away from St James’ Park.

Man City vs Newcastle: Who has the richest owners?

Since Sheikh Mansour purchased Manchester City for £200m in 2008, he has reportedly invested £2.5bn into the football club – roughly £1.5bn of which has gone on new signings – but is said to have a net worth of £17bn.

The actual owners of Man City are the Abu Dhabi United Group, which is an investment company for the Abu Dhabi royal family owned by Mansour. This makes Manchester City the second-richest club in the world. The first? Newcastle United.

A consortium led by Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) acquired an 80% share of Newcastle United in October 2021 for £300m. PIF is chaired by the Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who has a net worth of around £13bn, but the collective wealth of the PIF fund is thought to be in the region of £320bn.

That makes Man City’s riches look like pocket change, doesn’t it?

Who has played for Man City and Newcastle?

There are a handful of players who have played for both Manchester City and Newcastle United over the years, a few of which are huge names to Premier League fans around the world.

James Milner (Newcastle 2004-2008; Man City 2010-2015): The winger-turned-full-back started his career at Leeds United before joining Newcastle in 2004. He spent four years at St James’ Park before joining Aston Villa permanently for £12m.

Just two years passed before Man City purchased the England international for around £26m in 2010. From there, Milner went on to win all there is to win in the game, first at Man City and then at Liverpool, where he recently left to join Brighton & Hove Albion on a free transfer.

Milner made 136 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 11 goals. For City, he made 203 appearances and scored 18 goals. During his time at the Etihad, he won two Premier Leagues, an FA Cup and a League Cup.

Milner is now closing in on Gareth Barry’s all-time record of Premier League appearances (652) and could break that in the 2023/24 campaign if he can get enough game time at the AMEX.

Andrew Cole (Newcastle 1993-1995; Man City 2005-2006): Cole’s career is mostly underlined by his time at Manchester United, but before that, he was just as prolific for Newcastle, where he scored 68 goals in 84 first-team appearances before arriving at Old Trafford in a £6m deal in January 1995.

Five Premier League titles and a historic treble followed for Cole at Man United before he eventually ended up at Man City (via Blackburn Rovers and Fulham), where he scored 10 goals in 23 appearances during his solitary campaign in the blue half of Manchester.

He then went on to have spells with Portsmouth, Birmingham City, Sunderland, Burnley and Nottingham Forest before calling time on an illustrious career in 2009.

Craig Bellamy (Newcastle 2001-2005; Man City 2009-2011): The Wales international started his career at Norwich City, but really announced himself when Sir Bobby Robson signed him for Newcastle from Coventry City in a £6.5m deal in 2001. Bellamy went on to score 43 goals in 128 appearances for the Magpies before signing for Blackburn, via a season on loan at Celtic.

Spells at Liverpool and West Ham United followed before he ended up at Manchester City in a deal worth a reported £14m in 2008. Bellamy lasted just two seasons at the Etihad, in which he scored just 15 goals in 51 first-team appearances.

Other players to have played for both Newcastle and Man City include Shay Given, Laurent Chavet, Steve Howey, Sylvain Distin, Stuart Pearce, Dietmar Hamann, Joey Barton, Antoine Sibierski and Tommy Wright.

What is Man City’s biggest victory over Newcastle?

Man City have recorded a handful of 5-0 victories over Newcastle in the past, but the only time they scored more than five is when they won 6-1 at the Etihad Stadium in October 2015.

This game in particular is known mostly for Sergio Aguero’s emphatic 20-minute five-goal haul, with Kevin De Bruyne scoring the other.

However, Newcastle did actually take the lead in this game via Aleksandar Mitrovic’s 18th-minute opener. The two teams went into the break at 1-1 but by the 62nd minute, City were 6-1 up and Aguero had equalled the Premier League record for most goals in a single game.

What is Newcastle’s biggest victory over Man City?

Newcastle’s biggest victory over Manchester City came way back in October 1983 when they ran out 5-0 winners in a Division Two clash at St James’ Park.

A Peter Beardsley hat-trick was the headline of the game, while Chris Waddle and Kevin Keegan also found themselves on the scoresheet.

Since then, Newcastle have only managed to score more than three goals in a game against Manchester City on one occasion.

Wolves: Lopetegui has made contact over move for "powerful" star

Wolverhampton Wanderers have made contact with midfielder Guido Rodriguez over a potential switch this summer, according to Rudy Galetti.

The side are set for a busy final month of the transfer window.

What is the latest Wolves transfer news?

The Midlands side have had an incredibly tumultuous window so far.

The club have been incredibly limited in terms of what they can do in the market this summer due to FFP restrictions. Premier League rules state that clubs can only record losses of £105m over a three-year-period. In their most recent financial results, the club recorded a £46.1m loss, meaning that the side will have to limit spending and losses in order to comply to regulations and avoid punishments.

There was a real concern that current manager Julen Lopetegui would depart this summer after managing to keep the side up last season despite being bottom on Christmas. The former Real Madrid boss was reportedly frustrated with the situation and held multiple talks with the clubs ownership this summer, with reports suggesting the Spaniard could walk away from the job. Fortunately for Wolves fans, Lopetegui has confirmed that he will stay this season despite the clubs troubles.

Wolves have lost a number of key players this summer, with the most notable departure being Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves, who joined Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal for a reported fee of £47m. Defender Nathan Collins also departed after just one season at Molineux, joining fellow Premier League side Brentford in a deal worth £23m. The club also lost long serving players Joao Moutinho and Adama Traore following the expiry of their deals at the club, whilst former captain Conor Coady made the switch to recently relegated Leicester City.

The only transfer the club have made is bringing back former player Matt Doherty on a free transfer after his short term deal at Spanish side Atletico Madrid. The other confirmed singings were the activations of obligatory buy options from the loan deals of Matheus Cunha and Boubacar Traore.

Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez.

The club are looking make another signing this summer according to Galetti, who told GIVEMESPORT that conversations had occurred between Rodriguez and Wolves, however the player remains in discussions with his club Real Betis over a contract renewal this summer.

He said: "Wolves are moving slowly at this stage of the summer transfer window. There have been some contacts with Real Betis for Guido Rodriguez, but nothing concrete. The player, among other things, is discussing his contract renewal with the Spanish club.”

What is next for Wolves this window?

There is still plenty of business for the Midlands club to do this summer.

Well, you would think that a player like Rodriguez is a must for Wolves after the departures of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho, but it remains to be seen as to whether they can actually pursue signings like this given their current situation.

The club have suffered a blow in terms of incomings however, seemingly losing the race to sign Bristol City young star Alex Scott to Bournemouth. Wolves saw two offers rejected for the player this window, with £18m and £20m bids knocked back for their number one target, and the Cherries seem to be the side who have matched the Championship sides asking price of £25m. The club are looking to replace Collins with Nico Elvedi, with Football Insider reporting that the club are close to be completing the transfer for a fee in the region of £7.7m after the player rejected a new deal with the club.

Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes.

There could still be outgoings from Molineux this summer as well. Daniel Podence is reportedly a target of Spanish side Betis this summer, with the side hoping that a fee in the region of £7-10m will be enough to prise the player away from Wolves. Both Max Kilman and Matheus Nunes are targets for top European sides this summer, with the Englishman a target of Napoli following the departure of Kim Min-Jae this summer to Bayern Munich, whilst Nunes a reported target of PSG, with Luis Campos reportedly a big fan of the Portuguese midfielder who joined Wolves last summer for £42.2m.

Supreme Court softens stance, to reconsider some proposals

A year after approving the Lodha Committee recommendations and directing the BCCI to implement the same, the Supreme Court has warmed up to the idea of reconsidering a few of the proposals. Although the court did not spell out the specific ones it would re-open for debate, it did indicate that recommendations such as the one-state-one-vote policy, and the reduction in the size of the selection panel – which has already taken place – would be part of the discussions at the next hearing on August 18.In the interim, the court directed the BCCI and state associations to approve as many recommendations “as far as practicable”. “All concerned (BCCI and state associations) shall implement the recommendations of the Justice Lodha Committee Report as far as practicable, barring the issues which have been raised pertaining to membership, number of members of the selection committee, concept of associate membership, etc,” the court said in its order today.”The purpose is to implement the report as far as practicable and, thereafter, it shall be debated as to how the scheme of things can be considered so that the cricket, the ‘gentleman’s game’, remains nearly perfect.”The court’s order represents a softening of sorts on the verdict delivered on July 18 last year, when a two-judge bench led by former Chief Justice of India TS Thakur delivered a withering judgement, ordering the BCCI to implement the proposals within six months.Thakur has since retired, however, and the hearing has taken place in front of a three-judge bench comprising Justices Deepak Misra, AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud. The BCCI has scheduled a special general meeting (SGM) on July 26 to discuss and approve the adoption of the new constitution as per the Lodha Committee recommendations. The BCCI was originally scheduled to ratify the constitution at the July 11 SGM, but that was postponed after five state associations raised objections. On Monday, the court was responding to petitions filed by a number of state associations, as well as the by the BCCI itself, and also looking at the status report filed by the Committee of Administrators (CoA).The CoA, charged with overseeing the implementation of the proposals, had complained in their status report that disqualified office bearers with “vested interests” were stalling the process. Specifically, the CoA named the veteran pair of N Srinvasan and Niranjan Shah as “impediments”.Srinivasan and Shah filed individual affidavits, explaining their stance against proposals. Both men fail the eligibility criteria prescribed by the Lodha Committee on various counts, having been office bearers at their respective state association for more than nine years and having also exceeded the age cap of 70.Yet despite their ineligibility, Srinivasan and Shah have been attending BCCI meetings as representatives of their state associations. Other senior administrators, including Rajeev Shukla (IPL chairman and representative of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association) and Jyotiraditya Scindia (representative of Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association), have also violated court orders. The court today did not issue a final decision on the issue, but in response to the CoA report, did say that no ineligible office bearer, both at the BCCI and the state association, can attend the July 26 SGM. In theory, that means Srinivasan, Shah, Shukla and Scindia cannot attend Wednesday’s meeting.
