How callow South Africa ceded the psychological high ground

Elgar at a loss for answers, as bid to avoid playing by England’s rules backfires

Firdose Moonda12-Sep-2022Lock the drinks cabinet, please. South Africa will not be having any. After the promise of a shot of tequila for every mention of Bazball, South Africa don’t want to hear it anymore. And they’re serious about being sober. “I said I am not speaking about that,” Dean Elgar said, even before the question about how he assessed England’s proactive approach had been fully asked. When it was, he answered. “I actually thought they played relatively good Test cricket. I don’t think they played extraordinary cricket. I thought they played the correct tempo. I didn’t see that B-word coming through at all.”Didn’t see, or didn’t want to see? There is no denying that England played a certain way (whether you want to give it a name or not) throughout this series, and especially in the reduced-to-three-days decider. Ben Stokes confirmed that his message to the team was to “produce a result”, because in the last Test of the summer “nobody wants to see a draw”.That isn’t entirely true. Had South Africa thought it through, they would have realised that playing for a draw, taking four points and closing the gap between themselves and Australia in the World Test Championship table would have been the prudent approach. Instead, they got swept up in the kind of hype they are not used to.South Africa may not even realise it, but they allowed England to control the narrative as their pre-series tequila jokes gave way to a selection blunder at Old Trafford and batting blow-outs not seen in more than a century at The Oval. They also revealed their limited experience in dealing with a savvy media and a boisterous public and you can’t really blame them. Before this series, South Africa had played more than two years of cricket behind either closed doors or tiny crowds, while only three of the current squad had ever played Test cricket in England before. On top of that, no-one anticipated the scale of emotion that would come after the death of Queen Elizabeth II on the first day of the final Test.Kagiso Rabada is one of a handful of South Africans with prior experience of either English or Australian conditions•Getty ImagesBut could it all really be about one silly B-word? Yes, says a man who might know better than most. “Somebody in the press box comes up with Bazball and we know what happens in the English media,” Kevin Pietersen said on Sky Sports in his post-match analysis. “The pen is mightier than the sword and Test teams, touring teams will turn up here and they’ll be thinking about Bazball. Every single player around the world will be talking about Bazball – from India, to New Zealand to Australia. The psychology pre-Ashes is already happening.”It will be the least of South Africa’s concerns as to whether they have done England a favour ahead of next year’s Ashes. Instead, they should focus on the consequences this series defeat will have on their own Test ideology going forward. In this series, they were forced to confront their middle-order shortcomings and make big changes. Rassie van der Dussen (who missed the final Test through injury but had been out of form anyway) and Aiden Markram were swapped out for Ryan Rickelton and Khaya Zondo, but it’s far too early to say whether either man can go on to be the solution South Africa are looking for. But it’s no secret that South Africa need answers, and need them quickly.”It’s a tough one when guys aren’t getting numbers on the board for you,” Elgar said. “Sooner or later, your resources are going to be depleted and we are going to have to look elsewhere. We did the right thing for this Test match. We had to use the resources we had, something different, something new, you don’t know if you don’t give them a try.”But Elgar also continued to throw his weight behind both van der Dussen and Markram, who he thinks can come again. “Aiden has still got a bright future in Test cricket,” Elgar said. “He just needs to get numbers behind his belt and go back to the drawing board. He is still too young and too talented not to be playing this level of cricket. When he gets those opportunities to play a four-day game, he’s got to nail it like he has done in the past when he was left out and he went back home and he nailed four-day cricket, scored a lot of runs and he got his opportunity again.”That is precisely the problem. Even when Markam was the top-scorer in South Africa’s first-class competition, he was not able to translate that form to Test cricket. Since 2018, Markram averages 67.50 from 10 domestic first-class matches, with five centuries. In 18 home Tests in the same period, he averages just over half that: 34.70, with only two hundreds. It’s clear that South Africa’s domestic breeding ground is not producing enough players who can make the step up and Elgar is unsure how best to address the gap.Related

“I always bank on experience. I know we don’t have that at the Test level. My next best thing is, who do we have in first-class cricket back home, but is that the right solution? We don’t know yet,” he said. “We’ve still got a few months before our next series and we’ve only got a handful of four-day games at home before we leave to Australia. It’s a tough thing now, because the guys have to learn the toughest format without a lot of experienced heads around them, which is always something we were aware of. But those are the cards we’ve been dealt and we’ve got to find a way to ease the blow.”That upcoming assignment includes a run of Tests in Australia’s festive season for the first time since their victorious 2008-09 series. No-one in the current South African squad has any experience of playing a Test in front of a packed MCG or SCG, which will present another challenge. The same three who had experience in England – Elgar, Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj, along with Temba Bavuma – are likely to be the only players who have been part of a Test series in Australia before. The scrutiny – remember mint-gate? – will be unending. So how should South Africa avoid making the same mistakes?”We’ve been playing good cricket and we’ve been playing pretty average cricket as a squad, and we need to get that balance right,” Elgar said. “Every Test match is going to be something you have to live and die for. That three-Test match series is going to be huge. We’ve got five massive Tests before June. Even our series against West Indies, we can’t take that lightly. I need the guys to have that mentality going forward.”It sounds a little bit like the way England play, with one-pointed focus on every game as a must-win, but for Elgar’s sake, South Africa should avoid coming up with any catchphrases that define them.

Jesus upgrade: Nottingham Forest in the race to sign £13m “freight truck”

Nottingham Forest’s revival since Sean Dyche’s arrival at the club has been nothing short of sensational, with the 54-year-old having an immediate impact at the City Ground.

He’s led the Reds to four wins out of a possible five in the Premier League, taking the side out of the relegation zone and now looking upwards rather than over their shoulder.

Dyche has allowed numerous players to recapture their best form in the East Midlands, but none more so than Morgan Gibbs-White, as seen by his form in November.

The Englishman scored three times in his four appearances last month, resulting in the 25-year-old being nominated for the division’s Player of the Month award.

He could be joined by multiple other attacking options after the January window, with owner Evangelos Marinakis once again preparing to invest in the first-team squad.

Forest’s hunt for added reinforcements in the January window

Over the last couple of days, Forest have been just one English side touted with a potential move to land Lyon star Tyler Morton in the upcoming transfer window.

It’s been reported that Dyche’s side could see the 23-year-old as a possible replacement for Elliot Anderson should the England international leave in the winter market.

However, it’s also been reported that Marinakis is unwilling to sanction a January exit for their star player, with a £100m valuation already being slapped on his head.

Morton isn’t the only player on their shortlist at present, though, with Parma striker Mateo Pellegrino another option currently being considered by the hierarchy.

According to Sport Witness, the Reds are just one of multiple Premier League sides considering a move for the 24-year-old forward, who’s already netted seven goals this season.

The report also states West Ham and Spurs have also tracked his progress, with an unnamed English outfit already making a £13m bid for his signature in the summer.

Why Forest’s latest target would be an upgrade on Jesus

During the recent spending in the summer, Forest completed a deal for Botafogo striker Igor Jesus, after the Brazilian impressed at the Club World Cup during the summer.

Such a move generated huge excitement among the fanbase, with the 24-year-old already making an immediate impact in England after his transfer during the off-season.

He’s already found the net on six separate occasions to date, with three of his efforts coming in the Europa League during the club’s first European campaign in 30 years.

Jesus finally netted his first Premier League goal of the season against Wolves on Wednesday night, with his effort hopefully the first of many during the 2025/26 campaign.

However, he could find himself further down the pecking order after January, especially if the hierarchy complete a deal for Pellegrino during the upcoming window.

When comparing the pair’s respective stats from the ongoing campaign, the Argentine has outperformed him in key areas, showcasing why he would be an upgrade in the Brazilian.

Pellegrino, who’s been labelled a “freight-truck” by Serie A commentator Jose Rodriguez, has registered more league goals in 2025/26 to date, whilst also achieving a better goal per shot on target rate.

Such numbers showcase his incredible ability when in front of goal, whether that be in the air or on the ground, with the Argentine possessing serious quality in the box.

He could be the perfect Dyche centre-forward, as seen by his tally of 4.6 aerials won at a success rate of 53%, potentially offering the focal point, an area in which Jesus has struggled.

The Parma talisman has also completed more of the take-ons he’s attempted, whilst making more passes into the final third, arguably being a better all-round option than the Brazilian.

It’s unclear if the player himself would be open to a winter switch to the Premier League, but it’s clear Pellegrino would be a perfect fit for the current system at the City Ground.

He and Jesus are two players who could certainly share the responsibility at the top end of the pitch, with the former of the pair the best option to lead the club into the unknown.

'The players need rest' – Litton points to crowded calendar for T20I series defeat

“We have proven players in the current squad,” Litton Das says after West Indies won the T20I series 3-0, indicating that his boys have his trust

Litton Das has words of support for his players despite West Indies trouncing Bangladesh 3-0 in the home T20I series over the past week, only the second time in 12 bilateral home series where Bangladesh have been swept away. It came on the back of Bangladesh winning four consecutive bilateral T20I series since July this year.Bangladesh couldn’t chase down 166 and 150 in the first two matches, and West Indies then. chased down a 152-run target quite convincingly in the third game on what Roston Chase said was the best pitch in the series.”We have proven players in the current squad,” Litton said after the game. “One or two series, we can play like this. A player can go through a bad time for four or five matches. A batter knows where he has to improve. I am sure the batters will focus on those areas and consult the batting coach to make a comeback. If you change players every day, the results will be the same. A new player is unlikely to give you much more. So those who are playing cricket for a long time, it is better to go ahead with them to expect better results.”Related

Bangladesh’s batting was woeful in this T20I series, with only Tanzid Hasan hitting consecutive fifties. In the third game, only Tanzid (89) and Saif Hassan (23) crossed double-digits as they collapsed from 107 for 2 to be bowled out for 151 in 20 overs.Litton suggested that the T20I players needed some rest.Bangladesh have been the second-busiest team in 2025, having played 42 matches, two fewer than Pakistan. They have also played more than 40 matches in the last five calendar years and will feature in two Tests and three T20Is against Ireland in November and December to close off their 2025 tally.”We had separate fitness and skills camps before the Netherlands series. Then we beat them at home, before we went to the Asia Cup and Afghanistan series in the UAE, and then we came home for the West Indies ODIs and T20Is,” Litton listed. “Except for me – I was not in the T20 squad, so I got some time at home – most of these players were playing [continuously].”Sometimes, the players need rest because when you play so much, many things will not go your way. When the players get a break, like now that the T20 series is over, they will get at least ten days of break to restart themselves. Then there is the Ireland series, and before that, there will be practice. I think all the players will recover well and will be able to come back well.”Litton, however, conceded that the Bangladesh batters were behind the times in terms of skill development, especially in T20Is.”The more you develop your skill, the better you will get. Obviously our batters need to increase their skill and play all kinds of shots. We hardly have batters who play the reverse sweep, for instance,” he said. “World cricket is now far ahead, and those who bat on turning wickets play the reverse sweep. In that regard, we are a little behind. We need to work on those things. You should increase your strengths as much as possible, but when you apply it depends on your game.”Litton said that someone like Jaker Ali should look to be more positive and surround himself with people he can trust to get out of his batting dip.”There is only one option to come back from this: to keep his spirits high, not to worry too much, because if you worry, the negative thought will come more, the positive won’t. If he can think positive, it will be very good for him,” Litton said. “I will always say that when a person is struggling, he should back himself, give himself time, and hang out with people who always help him. I think he will get back into runs soon.”

Ravindra Jadeja to play for Saurashtra against Madhya Pradesh

Second round of the Ranji Trophy starts on October 25

ESPNcricinfo staff23-Oct-2025Ravindra Jadeja is set to play for Saurashtra in the second round of the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy starting October 25.Jadeja’s inclusion will strengthen their attack against Madhya Pradesh at home in Rajkot, on the same pitch where spinners took for 31 of the 35 wickets to fall in last week’s fixture between Saurashtra and Karnataka.Jadeja, the top-ranked Test allrounder, is currently on a break, having most recently played in the two home Tests against West Indies earlier this month. He scored his sixth Test hundred – an unbeaten 104 – in the first Test in Ahmedabad and took eight wickets in the series as India won 2-0.He wasn’t selected in India’s ODI squad that is currently in Australia, which Jadeja said was “not a surprise” after the team management spoke to him about their decision.”It is a good thing that they communicated the reason behind my omission,” Jadeja had said during the Delhi Test against West Indies. “I am happy about that. But whenever I get a chance next, I will try and do what I have done all these years.”If I get a chance in the World Cup and there are many ODIs before and if I do well there, it will be a good thing for Indian cricket. Winning a World Cup is everyone’s dream. We narrowly missed out last time, so next time we will try and make up for it.”When he plays against Madhya Pradesh, Jadeja will reunite with his Saurashtra spin twin Dharmendrasinh Jadeja. Dharmendrasinh picked up a match haul of 10 for 203 as Saurashtra earned points for taking the first-innings lead against Karnataka.Jadeja had most recently featured for Saurashtra in the previous Ranji season. He took 12 wickets in two matches – both all against Delhi – including a best of 7 for 38.

Two MLB Teams Remain in Roki Sasaki Sweepstakes As Padres Back Out

The sweepstakes for 23-year-old Japanese flamethrower Roki Sasaki could be nearing its conclusion. Sasaki, whose representation said he was open to playing for all 30 teams, is now reportedly down to two franchises as he nears a decision.

The MLB's international signing period officially opened on Wednesday, though Sasaki's list of potential suitors has been whittled down throughout the offseason, with teams like the Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers being eliminated in recent days.

On Friday, baseball insider Francys Romero reported that the latest team to drop out of the running is the San Diego Padres, who will use their international salary pool to sign left-handed pitcher Carlos Alvarez and shortstop Jhoan De La Cruz.

With the Padres bowing out, two teams remain in contention for Sasaki: the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays.

The Dodgers, with their franchise success and particular focus on cultivating Japanese stars like Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, have been considered the favorite to land the young potential ace. However, the Blue Jays are also making moves to bolster their international salary pool as negotiations continue.

Zack Meisel of reports that Toronto has acquired $2 million in additional international pool space through a deal with the Cleveland Guardians which will also see the Blue Jays pick up outfielder Myles Straw for a player to be named later. Toronto's pool is up to $8.26 million and could eclipse $10 million with additional deals.

The Dodgers have $5,146,200 in available pool money, and could increase that pot to a maximum of $8,233,920. Teams are allowed to add up to 60% of their total bonus pool via trade.

Sasaki, who spent last season with the Chiba Lotte Marines of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan, posted a 10–5 record with a 2.35 ERA and 129 strikeouts in 111 innings of play. He will return to Chiba if he doesn't sign an MLB contract by Jan. 23, when he 45-day posting window closes.

Beaumont stands in as captain after Sciver-Brunt suffers groin injury

Nat Sciver-Brunt, England’s captain, has been ruled out of the third T20I against India at the Kia Oval on Friday, and could miss the remainder of the five-match series, after suffering a groin strain during her side’s 24-run defeat in Bristol on Tuesday.Tammy Beaumont will step in as captain, for the first time in her 247-match international career, with Sciver-Brunt set to undergo further scans to assess the severity of the injury. She was forced to leave the field for large parts of Tuesday’s contest, with Sophia Dunkley, her official vice-captain, taking the reins in her absence. However, with England slipping to a 2-0 series deficit with three matches remaining, Beaumont’s greater experience has been called upon for now.”It’s real pride and honour to have the captain’s armband tomorrow, albeit in difficult circumstances,” Beaumont said. “Charlotte [Edwards, head coach] asked to meet me this morning, and straightaway I said, ‘Yep, thank you very much, I’ll give it a good go’. I guess we need a bit of fight to come out in this series, and I’m probably someone who likes to get in a battle, so can understand why.”Related

The setback is a blow, not only for England’s hopes of bouncing back in a series in which they have been comprehensively outplayed by their opponents, but also for their bid to forge a new team identity in the wake of Heather Knight’s removal as captain earlier this year. The new captain-coach partnership of Sciver-Brunt and Edwards began the summer with a comfortable clean sweep of West Indies across ODI and T20I formats. However, England have found the step-up in class of India’s batters especially hard to counter, with Smriti Mandhana’s century in the series opener setting up a crushing 97-run victory at Trent Bridge, before Jemimah Rodrigues and Amanjot Kaur combined to post another imposing total of 181 for 4 in Bristol.”The worst thing we could do right now is panic,” Beaumont said. “Obviously, it’s not the circumstances we wanted to be in. We didn’t want to be 2-0 down, and we didn’t want our captain and best batter to be out of the team. But we’re here where we are, and that’s what we’ve got to do.”We’ve got to try and bring some calm to it, and some rationale, some logic. We certainly believe we can come back and win this. Full credit to India. They’ve challenged us. They’ve pushed us so far, but I hope that we can respond, and I’m certainly intending on getting the girls to try and respond to what’s happened so far.”Sciver-Brunt had already been unable to bowl this series, with England managing her workload prior to this setback. However, she was their lone source of resistance with the bat at Trent Bridge, making 66 from 42 balls out of England’s total of 113. Beaumont, however, had been in fine form in the West Indies series, with two hundreds in the ODI series, and top-scored for England in the Bristol match, making 54 from 35 balls before being run out.Tammy Beaumont scored her first T20I fifty in four years, and will now lead England for the first time•ECB/Getty Images

“Obviously it’s pretty amazing to be back in the T20 side,” Beaumont said, having been a peripheral figure in the format since the 2021-22 Ashes. “It’s a slightly different role [at No. 4], but something that I think I’ve got the skillset to be able to do.”Asked whether she expected Sciver-Brunt to be ready in time for next Wednesday’s fourth match at Emirates Old Trafford, Beaumont said the picture was currently unclear, but that she was braced to take on the captaincy role for as long as needed.”That’s something we don’t know just yet, our medical team are doing all they can,” Beaumont said. “She’s got a scan today, so we’ll know more, but I think it’s in the balance for Manchester. But, whether it’s one game or a couple, I’m just hoping to put my hand up for the team and do the best I can, and will welcome Nat back with open arms whenever she’s fit.”England’s struggles against India have come as a reality check for the team, which has got used to winning comfortably on home soil in recent years, including an unbeaten summer campaign against New Zealand and Pakistan in 2024, before coming unstuck at the major tournaments – including last winter’s T20 World Cup in the UAE, and their 16-0 points loss in the Ashes.1:01

Beaumont: Nat Sciver-Brunt is a ‘complete natural’ at juggling motherhood and captaincy

In those circumstances, Beaumont agreed that the challenge that India were mounting could prove to be a blessing in disguise in the long run.”That’s what we keep talking about,” she said. “We’ve wanted more challenge [on home soil] for a long time. We’re well aware that our results in world tournaments and big series haven’t been what we’ve wanted them to be for a number of years now.”It’s only going to happen by being pushed more in bilateral series and feeling that pressure, and experiencing that, and taking learnings from it, and getting better each time. It’s happened quite early on, and it may come as a bit of a shock, but we are doing the hard work behind the scenes.”We had another really good meeting this morning, with some really honest reflections from a lot of players. A lot of players were being vulnerable, and that’s the only way that you can learn. Unfortunately, at the moment, we’re going through a tough time, but I’m a firm believer that tough times don’t last, but tough people do. We’re trying to become really tough people in this team and keep moving forward.”

Amorim pushing Man Utd to sign 33-cap international who could replace Dorgu

Manchester United are keen to compete on all fronts and could now look to add an experienced full-back to their ranks who could push Patrick Dorgu for his starting spot.

Manchester United look to balance youth and experience

The Red Devils are a club that has always taken pride in developing youngsters from their academy. Balancing the growth of young players with some experienced older heads to learn from will be their best chance of long-term success at Old Trafford.

With that in mind, Manchester United fans will be delighted to hear that Shea Lacey was called into England’s senior squad training before their clash against Wales, and England Under-20 coach Ben Futcher spoke to BBC Sport about the impact he feels the step up can have on his development.

He said: “We have looked after Shea and helped him get some minutes. He is a top talent, has reconnected with the group and I thought he performed really well. I am sure Manchester United have a good plan for him. Hopefully he can stay injury free and fulfil that potential.”

JJ Gabriel and Samuel Lusale are among other promising Manchester United academy gems hoping to one day make their senior breakthrough, and it appears that they are willing to give youngsters a chance.

Patrick Dorgu comes into that conversation under different circumstances since his move from Lecce in January. Nevertheless, the 20-year-old has made seven appearances in all competitions this season, completing four full matches in the Premier League.

Despite his emergence as a positive source of energy on the left-hand side of Ruben Amorim’s backline, he won’t be expected to play every game this season, which could pave the way for a positional competitor to arrive at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim pushing to sign Federico Dimarco for Man Utd

According to Inter Live, Manchester United are pushing to sign Inter defender Federico Dimarco, who is into the final two years of his £142,500 per week contract at San Siro.

Amorim is considered the man behind the effort to recruit the Italy international, and their involvement in persuading him to move to England is reportedly complicating the Nerazzuri’s bid to have him extend his contract.

£18m per year Man Utd star who regretted Old Trafford transfer set to leave

Should the Red Devils try and keep him?

ByHenry Jackson Oct 13, 2025

Earning 33 caps for his country, Dimarco has registered 20 goals and 37 assists in 198 appearances for the Serie A giants, establishing himself as a key goal threat and presence on the left flank.

Two strikes and three assists in eight outings this campaign has elevated his stock once more, and he may well be the ideal candidate to offer competition to Dorgu after Luke Shaw’s move into a left-sided centre-back role.

Either way, this transfer saga may be one to keep an eye on as Manchester United probe the market for reinforcements to strengthen under Amorim.

'It's not his fault' – Juventus squad simply not good enough as Antonio Cassano warns Serie A side against sacking 'great coach' Igor Tudor

Antonio Cassano has jumped to the defence of Juventus boss Igor Tudor after their 1-0 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid, insisting the Croatian shouldn’t be blamed for the team’s poor run. The outspoken former striker instead called out the Bianconeri’s squad quality, warning the club that sacking Tudor would be a huge mistake.

Cassano backs Tudor after Real Madrid defeat

Juventus’ winless run stretched to seven games after a 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League, leaving boss Tudor under growing scrutiny. Despite the result, the Italian giants showed flashes of promise at the Bernabeu, pushing Madrid for large spells before English starlet Jude Bellingham’s close-range finish decided the game.

Former Italy striker Cassano has, however, leapt to Tudor’s defence, claiming the problem lies with Juventus’ underwhelming squad rather than the manager. Speaking to , Cassano praised the Croatian’s tactical organisation and mentality, arguing that the 46-year-old is doing his best with limited resources.

“Igor Tudor is great: a great person, a great coach, a great communicator, he has a great personality, and I'm on his side,” Cassano said. “At the Bernabeu, he showed that he played a great match, in a world-class stadium. He could have scored a couple of goals, he could have conceded, he played the game brilliantly. But then, guys… what kind of players does Juve play with?”

Cassano continued his defence by stressing that Juve’ tactical discipline and effort under Tudor were clear to see in Madrid. Despite missing several chances, including Dusan Vlahovic’s late opportunity denied by Thibaut Courtois, the Bianconeri competed toe-to-toe with Xabi Alonso’s side for much of the contest.

“Juve played a great 65 minutes, they attacked, they had space to attack, but then when they finished… guys, they don't have Juve-caliber players,” Cassano said. “And it's not the coach's fault, he's trying to get what he can out of them. And Juve played a great match. Real Madrid didn't steal anything because they had their chances, but if you have 3-4 players of a certain level at your disposal in that team, this time you'll score three or four goals against Real Madrid. Maybe you concede four, but if you score three, you scare them.”

His comments reflect growing frustration among pundits who believe Juve have been weakened by years of poor recruitment and short-term planning. Tudor, who took over amid a turbulent period, has been credited with bringing back intensity and structure, but Cassano warned that without better players, results will remain inconsistent. “With a team like that… Tudor is the best coach right now, the one who can keep the ship afloat,” Cassano concluded.

Juventus improving under Tudor but still lacking bite

Tudor’s Juventus have shown signs of tactical evolution, especially in defensive structure and pressing organisation. The Croatian deployed a 5-4-1 system against Real Madrid, ensuring defensive solidity while allowing width through wing-backs Andrea Cambiaso and Pierre Kalulu. Players like Teun Koopmeiners and Khephren Thuram brought physicality in midfield, while Vlahovic led the line alone.

The plan initially worked, and Juventus frustrated Real for long spells, creating several chances before Bellingham’s decisive strike. However, the lack of a clinical edge and creative spark continues to haunt the Turin side. Key absences, including Federico Chiesa and Nicolo Fagioli, have also limited their attacking variety.

Getty ImagesLazio clash offers chance for reset

Juventus now turn their focus back to Serie A with a crucial away fixture against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, October 26. The Bianconeri have not won in seven matches across all competitions, piling pressure on Tudor to deliver a turnaround.

Statistically, Juve remain one of Serie A’s most active attacking teams, ranking third for total shots behind Inter and Napoli. However, their conversion rate and decision-making in the final third continue to undermine their efforts.

Juventus have historically dominated this fixture, winning 87 of their Serie A meetings with the Biancocelesti. Yet Lazio, backed by their home crowd, will be eager to exploit Juve’s fragile confidence.

For Tudor, the message from Cassano is clear, Juventus must hold their nerve, but Cassano’s warning could prove timely if Juventus are to avoid yet another managerial reset.

Em seguida, o CEO da SAF detalhou.
