Fico me iludindo. Se me botou no time, eu acho que vou jogar. Não quero saber se falou ou não. Fiquei pensando muito nisso. No treino decisivo, eu estava dentro. Depois, o Jair falou que eu ia jogar. Deu aquela tremedeira, mas deu tudo certo – brinca.

Pundit says Leeds would demand big money for Kalvin Phillips

Carlton Palmer believes there could be interest in Kalvin Phillips this summer, but said Leeds would demand big money for the midfielder.

Phillips, who’s currently impressing for England at the Euros and was named man of the match against Croatia, has proved a vital cog in Marcelo Bielsa’s machine in recent seasons.

And the 25-year-old has quickly proved himself as one of the most complete defensive midfielders in the Premier League, despite the 2020-2021 campaign Phillips’ first in the top-flight.

Phillips featured in 29 of Leeds’ 38 league matches last season, scoring once and assisting twice, as Bielsa’s team finished ninth on their return to the Premier League.

Not only is Phillips a fan of the Yorkshire club, but he’s been with them since he was a teenager, a factor which the Leeds faithful will hope to ensure he stays at Elland Road for many years to come.

Phillips still has three more years on his current deal, which means Leeds would demand a huge fee for the midfielder should interest come their way this window, according to Palmer who spoke exclusively to Football FanCast:

“Kalvin had a tremendous game against Croatia in the first game of the Euros and had a fantastic season for Leeds, so there are going to be teams that covet him.

“But Leeds United are not going to want to sell him and if they do sell him, they’ll want big money for him.”

We will be looking for a win – Mohsin Kamal

The realm of Bangladesh Cricket isn’t quite unknown to Mohsin Kamal, the new coach of Bangladesh national Team who replaced Trevor Chappell

Shahryar Khan22-May-2002The realm of Bangladesh Cricket isn’t quite unknown to Mohsin Kamal, the new coach of Bangladesh national Team who replaced Trevor Chappell. The fast bowler from Pakistan, made his debut in 1984 against England, bagged 24 wickets in 9 Tests, spanning over 11 years. He came here for the first time in 1985-86, to play for Omar Khureshi-11 and made a memorable mark against Bangladesh team by capturing 6 wickets for 27 runs, forcing the home side bundle out for 48.In 1994 he made his second visit for Pakistan-A. Here, as a fast bowler, he spotted some talents in Bangladesh and became more familiar with higher-level cricket playing here. As a coach he has already seen some Bangladesh-A team players working with Ali Zia. He saw some matches of Bangladesh team in TV, playing against Pakistan in last January. A very meek fellow, Mohsin Kamal, didn’t disclose the names of the cricketers he found very promising here in Bangladesh.” I just can’t say any names right this moment. It is hard to name one or two persons. But be sure of one thing – I have seen a lot of potentials here. If we work on them, nurture them – they will flourish as geniuses. So, I think it’s too early to name them.”It is a crucial time when he took over the charges from Trevor Chappell, as the tour to Sri Lanka is at hand. Undoubtedly, it is a big challenge (Almost a risky venture!) for him, since Bangladesh couldn’t make a good grade since their inception into the longer version (10 defeats out of 11 Tests, they got away luckily against Zimbabwe aided by the rain and conceded a draw). Mohsin says,” I know it is going to be a big challenge for me, but it seems also very easy if I said that I had accepted hard things in my life. I knew the task would be tough, but I accepted it mentally before I came here. The BKSP campaign in next month is vital. I know I could spot some young stars along with some senior players. I will have to work with them now and have to find a way out through them. I will see them first and then make a final plan two weeks before we set off for Sri Lanka.”” I have seen the video of Bangladesh- Sri Lanka Test match in Colombo, I have analyzed our players. I think I would make something out of it. Sri Lanka is unquestionably a better side, but I think Bangladesh shouldn’t have any sort of pressure counting on that, or if they have they will have to shake it off soon. We have to feel the way that we are playing against our rivals not against our heroes. If we count them as heroes we will be bogged down.””We will be heading off for Sri Lanka with a positive approach – we are going to win there. If not possible, we will of course give them a hard time on their soil. That is our motto.”Bangladesh lost 6 matches within the 3rd day, even in the home ground they lost two in this way against Pakistan. Mohsin feels that playing too many one-day games is a good reason behind such debacle.” Playing too many one-day matches may arrest the development of the techniques a batsman needs to play in Test matches. There are flaws in Bangladesh’s defensive technique, I found. If you are a very good Test player, you can be a very good one-day player too, but not all good one-day players turn up as good Test players.”We will work on the defensive techniques of Bangladeshi players. It is urgent mostly, because, in Test matches you will have to learn how to stay as long as possible. Everybody can play shots, even suicidal ones, but it is hard to bat with patience when the odds are not in favor. Your ability to cope up with such condition is hard and only then the defensive skills will help you out. Our batsmen must have to learn these things. They shouldn’t throw their wickets away like they did in near past.””Sometimes you will have to avoid making shots and bat bending your cool head down completely, keeping off from playing non-percentage strokes. Often that works. I must say these are the preliminary simple methods to carry on against the stronger teams.”With the absence of Mashrafe Bangladesh pace attack has turned out to be toothless. Manjural will be the spearhead with Mohammed Sharif at the other end. Mohsin belongs to a country that saw so many real quickies! He says,” Fast bowlers are naturally born. They should be searched for. A bowler who can bowl with a lot of pace should be picked up immediately. He may be wayward, erratic and weak in his technique, but those things could be corrected. That’s why I asked the selectors and the board that I need to go around and see some pace bowlers. I will be seeing them on 28th and 29th May before we start off for BKSP.”

Coman’s agent is in talks with Man United

The agent of Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman is reportedly in talks with Manchester United over a potential move ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

What’s the story?

According to German outlet Bild, super-agent Pini Zahavi has been ordered to negotiate with Premier League clubs as the 24-year-old considers a move away from the Bundesliga giants.

Manchester City and Chelsea are also named among possible destinations for Coman, although the report states that a move is unlikely to occur until the summer of 2022.

Ole must avoid

The France international has just helped Bayern to their ninth consecutive top-flight title in a row, producing one of his best-ever season’s numbers-wise.

Coman scored just five league goals for Hansi Flick’s side, but his impressive haul of 12 assists in 29 league games was by far his best return throughout his senior career.

Nevertheless, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer must avoid this tempting transfer and concentrate solely on getting the Jadon Sancho deal over the line.

While Coman has failed to ever bag over six league goals in a single campaign despite playing for the division’s best side each season, the England international has hit totals of 12, 17 and eight for Borussia Dortmund since 2018/19.

Added to the fact that the 21-year-old has also been far more creative on the pitch than his Bayern counterpart, laying on an incredible 47 league assists in the same timeframe compared to the former Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain star’s haul of 21, it’s clear to see the difference in quality between the two forwards.

United finished second in the recently concluded Premier League campaign, 12 points behind champions Man City.

The sizeable gap was down to many reasons, but a significant one was due to the fact that Pep Guardiola’s men outscored their local rivals by 10 goals.

If Solskjaer is faced with a choice between Coman and Sancho when trying to close the gap to the Cityzens, then the Norwegian boss has an obvious answer to his dilemma.

The Frenchman’s persistent injury issues make him a liability too, and the ridiculous output of Sancho makes him a far more attractive target who could potentially help United overhaul their domestic rivals with his outstanding ability.

It would, quite simply, be a mistake to sign Coman instead of Sancho.

And, in other news…Get it done: United could seal their next Fernandes in “outstanding” £19.8m-rated gem

Leicester get huge boost in Soumare race

Leicester City have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of one of this summer’s major transfer targets.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Foxes have agreed personal terms with Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare, whilst they are “close” to an agreement with the French club over the signing of the 22-year-old.

With “many clubs” having reportedly enquired with the Ligue 1 giants over a potential swoop for Soumare, the fact that Brendan Rodgers is seemingly edging close to the signing will be a huge boost for Leicester ahead of next season.

In his time with Lille, the midfielder has harnessed the reputation as one of the most promising youngsters in world football.

He has already made 110 appearances for the club in all competitions since a move from Paris Saint-Germain and has played a key role as Les Dogues attempt to beat his former employers to the Ligue 1 title in 2020/21.

Even before his move to Stade Pierre Mauroy, Soumare was certainly showing promising signs.

Former Lille Director General Marc Ingla described the midfielder as “powerful” even before he had made his debut for the club.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-leicester-city-news%2c-transfer-rumours-and-more-abraham-demrial-maddison-rodgers-mckennie” title=”Latest Leicester City news, transfer rumours and more…”]

A naturally defensive-minded midfielder, Soumare would find considerable competition in the form of Wilfred Ndidi of the current crop at Leicester.

However, partnering him with the Nigerian could hand the Foxes one of the most dominant midfield pairings in world football.

Ahead of what could be a potential UEFA Champions League campaign in 2021/22, that midfield strength could certainly be a huge plus point for the East-Midlanders.

So having seemingly sealed a deal to sign Soumare, Rodgers’ midfield options, and squad in general, already look very, very strong.

AND in more news, Leicester have been handed worrying injury news over a key player ahead of the end of the season…

Wolves eye move for Boubakary Soumare

Wolves’ win over Brighton on Sunday afternoon felt like a landmark moment for a number of Nuno Santo’s players.

Morgan Gibbs-White stole the show with a last-minute winner while Max Kilman returned to the fray to prove he still has something to offer.

The defender has been linked with the exit door but he and several other young players at Molineux put in a battling and brave display.

With Vitinha at the top of Wolves’ midfield, the future looks particularly bright. They will, of course, have to exercise their option to buy him but considering his performance against West Brom over a week ago, they’d be fools not to.

What Wolves do require, though, is a battling midfield player.

Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho bring poise and grace but Leander Dendoncker has been far from consistent throughout 2020/21.

The perfect player would be Boubakary Soumare, a man Wolves have been linked to in the French media. It’s thought Leicester are interested in the midfielder but Nuno’s men, Everton and Aston Villa have all made enquiries.

The 22-year-old is a dominating force in Ligue 1 for Lille and would add something brand new to the squad at Molineux.

He is strong in the tackle but crucially, he likes to stride forward and influence play in the final third too.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-wolves-news-and-views-lingard-leao-jimenez-mir” title= “Read the latest Wolves news and views!”]

If we compare him to Dendoncker, they are pretty neck and neck for their contribution defensively but it’s in the build-up where Soumare really stands up.

The Frenchman has proven to be successful with a massive 85% of his dribbles this term while his 67% tackle success is 15% more than Wolves’ Belgian enforcer.

Soumare in blue vs Dendoncker in green (via Soccerment)

Coincidentally, Dendoncker’s pass success (87.4%) is better, but Soumare’s tally (86.4%) is greater than both Moutinho and Neves.

What sets him apart from all of the midfielders at Wolves this season is his ability to carry the ball forward. On plenty of occasions Nuno’s side has lacked someone willing to transition things from defence into attack swiftly.

Fortunately, Soumare would provide them with an enormous dose of energy. In 2020/21, the youngster has carried the ball forward 157.1 yards per 90 minutes. That number is considerably more than Dendoncker (69.8) and the aforementioned Portuguese duo.

Moutinho carries the ball 111.8 yards per 90 minutes while Neves manages an average of 101.9.

It won’t come as a great surprise to hear that he’s been compared to Paul Pogba. Another all-action midfield player, he combines frantic energy with raw power.

Speaking about the Soumare in 2020, Lille president Gerard Lopez said: “He’s one of the very best at his job. He’s technical, with incredible physical power and wins a great deal of possession. He’s a modern No.6 or 8. We’ll see him in the France team very soon.”

Valued at £30m a few months ago, it won’t be a cheap deal for Wolves to conclude, but if they get it over the line he’d represent an enormous upgrade.

CPFC: Fans buzz at Lampard update

Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has emerged as the leading contender to replace Roy Hodgson at Crystal Palace, according to The Telegraph.

It didn’t take long for the latest managerial update to make its way onto social media, where a number of Palace fans gave their thoughts on the possibility of Lampard moving to Selhurst Park.

The report claims that the Eagles are deliberating over whether or not to make a managerial change, with Lampard now among the club’s top choices to potentially replace the 73-year-old former England boss.

Lampard, who was sacked at Stamford Bridge back in January, is thought to have moved ahead of the likes of Sean Dyche and Eddie Howe in Palace’s off-field shortlist.

It remains unclear as to whether or not a move to Palace would appeal to the 42-year-old, as he reportedly has no interest in becoming England’s Under-21 boss.

Palace fans react

@cpfc_xtra shared The Telegraph’s report regarding Palace and Lampard on Twitter on Wednesday evening.

Their post received plenty of interaction, with these Palace supporters below seemingly keen on a move for Lampard and one describing a possible appointment could bring ‘fresh added life’ into the club.

Saints fans gutted at McQueen news

Southampton fans were upset after Ralph Hasenhuttl admitted it is unlikely Sam McQueen will play football ever again.

There was a time when McQueen looked as though he had a big future in the game. He made his debut in the F.A Cup during the 2013/14 season as a teenager and went on to make 29 appearances in all competitions for the Saints (Transfermarkt). He also embarked on loan spells at Middlesbrough and Southend United as he looked to gain experience.

However, when at the Riverside Stadium during the 2018/19 term, he suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament, and he has not kicked a football since. Now, prior to the Saints’ clash against Leicester City, Hasenhuttl said it would be a “miracle” if McQueen played ever again.

The news was shared on Twitter by Jacob Tanswell, and it attracted plenty of interest from the Southampton supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts on this very sad update.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about the McQueen news below

Everton man King linked to Celtic

Gabby Agbonlahor has dropped a claim on whether Josh King would be a good signing for Celtic if Eddie Howe takes charge, should he leave Everton.

The Scottish Sun have reported that the former AFC Bournemouth boss would like to bring his former player to the Hoops as a replacement for wantaway Odsonne Edouard.

Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor has claimed that he does not see King staying at the Goodison Park faithful, but warned that the Norway international would have to reduce his wage demands if he is to sign for another club in the summer transfer window:

“I don’t see Everton taking up the deal to sign him for longer because he hasn’t really played much.

“With Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, I don’t see it going that way.

“Maybe it will be one that Eddie Howe will look at for either Celtic or Crystal Palace when he gets the job.

“His wage demands are something like £120,000-a-week, I’m hearing. So he would have to lower those wage demands to get the move he wants.

“There’s a lot that could happen but for me, he’s going to have to maybe half his wage demands to get a move this summer.”

Everton should let King go

The move that brought King from the Cherries to the Merseyside club has not really worked out, and so Carlo Ancelotti’s team should really think about letting him go when his short-term deal expires.

The 29-year-old has only played in a mere eight games in total over all competitions so far in the 2020/21 term for the Toffees, and has not started once (£45,000-per-week, the demands Agbonlahor is hearing are remarkable.

With Moise Kean coming back from his loan spell at Paris Saint Germain as well, the Blues may want to think about keeping him in the squad for next season, which would leave even less room for King.

Thus, an EFC exit for the striker would suit all parties involved.
