Leeds fans have expressed some huge concerns over varying aspects of their play following defeat against Charlton.

The Whites were the dominant team at the Valley, registering over 70% of the possession and amassing 19 shots but that didn’t tell the full story as the Addicks prevailed 1-0.

It was from a set-piece that Leeds conceded and a stat courtesy of LUFC Data detailed just how poor Marcelo Bielsa’s men have been at defending those scenarios this season.

It was damning evidence of where they need to improve going forward and it had many supporters thinking about where it went wrong.

One supporter claimed it was because they no longer had Pontus Jansson while another described the issue as more of a gaping wound than an Achilles heel.

A further individual noted how it was an inevitable consequence of bringing in someone like Ben White to replace the Swede over the summer. Leeds’ inability to find the back of the net was also bemoaned by one fan.

Leeds failed to score for the second time this season as Patrick Bamford racked up a fourth straight game without scoring. Defensively, however, there is also a glaring weakness.

2018/19 Everton loanee Kurt Zouma played the full 90 minutes in Chelsea’s 4-0 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, and many Toffees fans brought some interesting views to the table.

Marco Silva had made no secret of his desire to bring the Frenchman back to Goodison Park during the summer transfer window following his successful spell on Merseyside last term, but Blues boss Frank Lampard ultimately wanted to keep him.

Given he started against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men on Sunday that perhaps isn’t surprising, but the 24-year-old hardly did himself any favours with his display.

Having already given the ball away with an under-hit back-pass, the centre-back then clumsily gave away a penalty in the 15th minute after bringing down Marcus Rashford in the area.

The visitors’ defence was then split open far too easily for the second and third goals for United, on a day to forget for Zouma.

Some Everton supporters took to Twitter with the obvious quip that the France international was playing for a return to Goodison.

However, many others took a slightly different view in saying they now have a better centre-back in Yerry Mina, who drew plenty of praise for his showing against Crystal Palace, as you can see below.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has urged his fellow teammate Paul Pogba to stay at Old Trafford this summer amid speculation of a move away for the Frenchman.

What did he say?

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that Pogba could be on his way out of Old Trafford following comments from the France World Cup winner that he wanted a “new challenge”.

However, despite the transfer deadline approaching in less than a month, no offers have seemingly been made for the midfielder and Mata has now urged his teammate to stay and praised his influence in the dressing room.

He said: “We all know Paul and he is a fantastic midfielder, and a very good guy, very positive, and a good influence for everyone.

“I think he is happy and brings everyone together, but I cannot speak for other people – I speak for myself. As a team-mate and a friend I would like him to stay and be happy because he is a very good player for us.”

The soul of the party

As Mata suggests, Pogba’s expressive personality certainly sees the midfielder wear his heart on his sleeve. When things are going well the 26-year-old’s flamboyance can be an endearing trait, but when things aren’t going so well, it can lead to heavy criticism.

Reports had even suggested that whilst Pogba was not an unpopular member of the dressing room, the transfer saga surrounding him had seemingly convinced his teammates that it would be for the best if he were to leave Old Trafford this summer.

If reported suitors Real Madrid fail to entice United into selling him, then Pogba’s footballing qualities could see him remain an integral part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side; indeed, the Norwegian even insisted that he was still looking to build his side around the Frenchman despite the links of a move away.

Mata’s comment that Pogba is a “good influence for everyone” is certainly enlightening in terms of the supposed narrative of him being a disruptive presence in the squad. If Pogba does end up staying, then he could well sweep all of the drama of this summer under the carpet and get back to his old self once again.

Some Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to tip Alisson Becker for the Ballon d’Or, after Brazil ended their 12-year long wait for a trophy with Copa America glory over Peru.

Tite’s Brazil side swept aside all who stood before them, and the Reds’ No.1 played a huge part in securing his first ever major international trophy.

Alisson won the Golden Glove with five clean sheets from six games at the tournament, and almost went without conceding a single goal before Peru scored a penalty in the final.

Due to that, and the fact that the 26-year-old also won the Premier League Golden Glove and the Champions League Golden Glove, some Liverpool fans on Twitter have tipped their man between the sticks for football’s greatest individual prize – the Ballon d’Or.

Given his personal accolades and the silverware he has helped his club and country win, you definitely can’t rule the former Roma man out of the equation.

After arriving from Lorient last summer in a £8m deal, not much was expected of floppy-haired Frenchman Matteo Guendouzi. The 20-year-old shone in a team in France’s second division and no-one really could have predicted the kind of impressive debut campaign he would have in England.

Such was the impression the midfielder left on Unai Emery in Arsenal’s pre-season though, that he was handed the full 90 minutes against Manchester City and Chelsea in the opening two games of the Premier League season last year.

Guendouzi’s rapid rise saw him named in France’s squad for the U21 European Championships this summer and despite his side exiting the competition in disappointing fashion against Spain, he showed a real glimpse during the game of what he could potentially bring to Arsenal’s future.

When Les Bleus were on top in the clash, it was Guendouzi who was truly at the heart of everything that was good. The midfielder’s 55 passes were a game-high for France and came at an impressive 83.6% accuracy; the kind of figures enjoyed by a deep-lying playmaker.

But for someone of Guendouzi’s age, it was his defensive contributions that impressed the most on Thursday night. His two interceptions were the second-highest of any of his teammates and the three times he was fouled were often on occasions where he was deep inside his own half and relieving Spanish pressure.

One sumptuous through ball that eventually led to an awful miss from Jean-Philippe Mateta was a major highlight of how progressive his passing can be at Arsenal, with the attacking side of his game still in need of development. After Aaron Ramsey’s departure to Juventus, this could be key.

Indeed, his calmness and composure on the ball are reminiscent of Granit Xhaka and it was little surprise to see Emery employing the two in the middle in order to control the tempo of matches last season.

After taking in a full campaign of English football, Guendouzi will fancy his chances of stepping up another gear for Emery’s side next year. So if he plays as a deep-lying playmaker like a Xhaka, or more of a box-to-box presence like a Ramsey, the Frenchman has shown he has the tactical astuteness at just 20 years of age to be anything and everything his manager wants him to be. Arsenal’s season looked incredibly promising on 1st April, with many fans and pundits backing the North Londoners for a top four finish. Since then, the Gunners have crumbled, leaving their hopes of finishing fourth all but over providing there are no end-of-season miracles.

Unai Emery’s men took to the field on Sunday afternoon knowing a win would put them in a very strong position for Champions League qualification via the league, as Chelsea and Tottenham face tricky games on the final day of the season.

It wasn’t to be as Granit Xhaka brought down Solly March in the penalty area, before Glenn Murray converted the spot kick to deny Arsenal the three points.

Social media erupted as the patience of Arsenal fans broke, leaving many star players in the firing line of criticism from their supporters.

One star in particular, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, received some rather misplaced criticism. The striker has contributed 20 goals and five assists in the Premier League this season, though has also been erratic in front of goal at times.

Arsenal have been crying out for a world-class striker for years, and in Alexander Lacazette and Aubameyang – who allegedly takes home £200k per week – they’re now blessed with two.
