Arsenal want exciting goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki, fans react

[ad_pod ]

Finding a reliable shots-topper has been a constant struggle for Arsenal over the last decade but, in Bernd Leno, they may have their best goalkeeper since Jens Lehmann – the former Bayer Leverkusen man is far from perfect and has been at fault a few times this season which shows how poor the Gunners’ previous custodians have been.

At 26, the German could be at the Emirates for another ten years, but that hasn’t stopped Sven Mislintat and co from scouting out a young star to provide some competition as Unai Emery takes the club into a new era.

Legia Warsaw’s highly-rated 19-year-old Radoslaw Majecki is reportedly seen as a long-term replacement for the waning Petr Cech, whose days at the top level are numbered.

The Pole would not be the first from his country to don the gloves at Arsenal – Juventus’ Wojciech Szczesny and West Ham’s Lukasz Fabianski have previously stood between the sticks for Arsenal but unfortunately never exhibited the quality they have done at their new respective clubs. Could Majecki be different?

Here’s how Arsenal fans reacted to the reports on Twitter…

Playmaker FC believes Arsenal fans won’t have to wait long to see Unai Emery’s long-term ambitions for the club come to fruition. Watch the video above to find out why…

Steve Bruce simply has to start Yannick Bolasie if Aston Villa are to thump Bristol City tonight

Aston Villa supporters have been pretty downbeat in recent times after seeing their side suffer a second Championship defeat of the season at the weekend.

Steve Bruce’s men went into their encounter with Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday off the back of beating Rotherham United 2-0 in their previous league game, and thus seeking to record back-to-back wins for the second time this season. Yet the Villans were unable to do so as goals from Marco Matias and Steven Fletcher either side of a John McGinn wonder-strike sealed a 2-1 success for Jos Luhukay’s Owls, thus prompting several boos from home fans at the conclusion of the match.

As such, there have been many disappointed and angry Villa fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom are likely wondering what changes, if any, Bruce will make to his starting eleven for the tricky trip to Bristol City this evening.

Lee Johnson’s men currently sit eighth in the Championship table but have lost their last two league games, albeit they have emerged victorious in their previous two matches at Ashton Gate to underline the task facing Bruce’s side tonight.

But there is little doubting that the Villa chief has the armoury to come away from their trip to the Robins with all three points, especially if he gives loan signing Yannick Bolasie his first start since making the move from Everton last month.

The winger has so far made three appearances for the Midlands giants but all three have come from the substitute’s bench, with the 29-year-old netting his first goal for the club in the 2-0 success over Rotherham on September 18.

And with Bruce admitting in his pre-match press conference that Bolasie will start ‘imminently’, the Villa boss must throw him into the starting eleven this evening in a bid to snap out of their recent run of poor form.

The Villans have won just one of their last seven games in the league to slip to 13th place in the division, with it seeming that Bruce’s side have been missing that spark and creativity in the final third of the pitch – Bolasie can provide that.

Villa were seen to have pulled off quite the coup in luring the DR Congo international to Villa Park during the summer, and that’s because, when in-form and fully fit, Bolasie is a player who can produce the goods at Premier League level, let alone in the second tier.

And Bruce is in dire need of his big players performing given his team’s poor run alongside the pressure that is mounting on his shoulders, and there is little doubting that the 29-year-old has the ability to take the game away from an opposition, not least the Robins who shipped four at West Brom last week.

Thus, with Bolasie showing signs of promise in his three substitute cameos for Villa, Bruce must name the £13.5 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) in his starting eleven if his side are to pick up three points at Ashton Gate this evening.

Villa fans… what do you think? Let us know!

Four key questions Pochettino must answer before facing Man City

Aside from rear-guard performances at the Bernabeu, an away trip to Manchester City represents the biggest challenge Tottenham have faced so far this season. While Spurs will take confidence from back-to-back victories in the top flight, Saturday’s opponents have just set an English top flight record of 15 consecutive wins.

That doesn’t mean Manchester City are an unbeatable team though; achieving a result against them simply requires Mauricio Pochettino to find the right answers to these four crucial questions….

Should Spurs stick with 4-2-3-1?

Since a shock defeat to Leicester City, Pochettino has found himself reverting back to 4-2-3-1 – the tried and trusted formation the Tottenham boss used almost without fail during his first few seasons in English football. It’s clearly had the desired effect; across all competitions, the Lilywhites have won three of their last four, also drawing with an in-form Watford side.

But Manchester City are an incredibly different animal and considering how relentless they’ve been going forward this season, it might make more sense to get an extra defensive body on the pitch by setting up the side in the 5-3-2 system we’ve seen from Spurs at times this season. It’s a big call for Pochettino; some will argue managers shouldn’t fix what isn’t broken and that the Argentine has paid the price for too much tinkering at times this term.

That being said, it feels as if Tottenham need to be more proactive in counter-acting City if they’re to come away from the Etihad Stadium with a decent result this weekend.

Who starts on the defensive flanks?

Inherently linked to which formation Tottenham use, those lining up on the defensive flanks could well be the difference on Saturday – especially the right. Fabian Delph has performed a decent job on the most-part this season but his lack of defensive instincts could become prevalent if he’s truly tested by an opposite number like Serge Aurier, who has the pace and power to bring Spurs up the pitch on the counter-attack.

But Kieran Trippier has been the trusted option on the most part this season and it’s a similar case on the opposite side; Danny Rose offers the kind of dynamism that seems so important in such a big game, but Ben Davies has proved himself to be incredibly dependable. Aurier and Rose both started in midweek, suggesting Davies and Trippier will return at the weekend.

But that shouldn’t be an automatic assumption on Pochettino’s part – the wide men will set the emphasis of his entire side.

Should Dele Alli come back into the team?

Another selection dilemma inspired by the picks in the 2-0 win over Brighton. Dele Alli’s struggled for form this season and found himself benched on Wednesday night, which could well be the kick up the backside the England international needs to quickly turn his campaign around.

But there’s a real dilemma here – a question of risk versus reward. While Pochettino will want his best players on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium, Tottenham will need every player producing if they’re to return to north London with at least a point.

Passengers simply can’t be afforded and leaving out Alli again would make a real statement to the youngster, who appears to have fallen for his own hype this season.

What City weaknesses can Spurs exploit?

They may seem like a perfect side but Pep Guardiola’s team inevitably contains some weaknesses – it’s just a question of whether Tottenham can work out how to best exploit them.

Perhaps the most obvious is set pieces; City aren’t the tallest side and although few teams have won enough corners and free kicks to take advantage of that this season, the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Eric Dier and Harry Kane could have a huge impact if Christian Eriksen provides top-class deliveries from those situations.

Aside from that, it must be remembered how makeshift this City defence is at the moment – Eliaquim Mangala has returned from the abyss to fill in at centre-half while midfielder Fabian Delph has become the emergency left-back.

If Spurs can consistently test both players by using the pace of Heung-min Son in the right channel, they may find real joy on the counter-attack.

Conte walkout would be huge shock to Chelsea, but is the threat serious?

Antonio Conte will consider quitting Chelsea if he cannot reach an agreement with the club’s hierarchy about various issues, reports the Daily Record.

What’s the story?

Just over a month after lifting the Premier League title, not many would expect there to be rumours of a potential walkout from the manager.

However, the Daily Record claims that Conte is frustrated with Chelsea’s bigwigs over transfer strategy and not having a direct link to club owner Roman Abramovich.

It is believed that the Italian is exasperated about numerous issues, including transfer budget as he wants to enhance every area of the pitch ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

Conte is also rumoured to be demanding full control of the club’s academy, as well as the final say on who joins his coaching staff.

The former Juventus boss is also said to want an improved salary after guiding the team to the league title, and if his demands are not answered, he may walk.

Former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel has reportedly been outlined as a potential replacement.

Should Chelsea fans be worried?

Some supporters may be left scratching their heads after this report as it seems to have come from left field.

The Mirror claims that Chelsea have laughed off the rumours and have no concerns that Conte will resign from his position.

It would be hugely shocking and rather bizarre if the Italian walked away considering that he has the chance of defending the league title next season and embarking on a Champions League campaign with the Blues.

At this stage of post-season, clubs hold meetings with their managers to discuss the strategy moving forward, and disagreements are expected, but it is difficult to foresee Conte walking away from Chelsea.

It was not that long ago when speculation was rife that the Blues were keen to offer the manager a new contract, so matters would have had to have escalated rapidly for the two parties to now be at loggerheads.

Manchester City join race for Ajax goalscoring sensation

According to reports in The Sun, Manchester City are in the race to sign teenage striker Kasper Dolberg who is making waves in Dutch football this season.

What’s the word?

Manchester City have one of the most talented squads in England and aren’t lacking for firepower, with only Liverpool netting more Premier League goals so far this term.

That’s not stopping them looking to the future, though, with 19-year-old Kasper Dolberg a target for Pep Guardiola ahead of the January transfer window.

Quoted by The Sun, City scout Sebastian Arnesen said: “We are keeping a very close eye on him, and when the time is right we’ll make a decision on whether we should act. He is so special, and therefore he is of course also on the radar.”

Unusually candid words for a football club official, but they highlight how highly Dolberg is thought of in the game.

Really that good?

Scoring eleven goals in 15 starts for Ajax this season, Dolberg has taken Eredivisie by storm since joining from Danish Superlig side Silkeborg in the summer.

At just 19, he’s also already made his debut for Denmark, his first appearance coming last month against Kazakhstan.

His finishing ability is ridiculously composed for a player of such a young age, while he also has the dribbling ability to take defenders on at speed.

Despite hitting headlines through the season, it was his stunning recent performance against NEC Nijmegen that really set tongues wagging.

An incredible first half hat-trick destroyed NEC, and made up part of a 5-0 victory, in which Dolberg also got an assist.

If he can keep producing to that standard, we reckon City won’t be the only massive club looking to make a bid for him in upcoming transfer windows.

Joe Cole’s productive stint in France is the wrong lesson for young English talent

Joe Cole has played for some big clubs. In the Premier League, he’s made 126 appearances for West Ham United, and 182 for Chelsea. But if you were asked which club the former England man made his third-most appearances for, would you have guessed his current club, the Tampa Bay Rowdies?

Up until just a few months ago, though, Cole’s third club in terms of league appearances was Ligue 1 side Lille, for whom he played in loan in 2011/12.

Lille had won the league in 2011, and it remains their only Ligue 1 title since 1954, whilst in the intervening period they’d won the Ligue 2 title four times, giving an idea as to the trajectory of the club. But as league champions, it wasn’t just an inviting club for Cole to spend a season at, it also guaranteed Champions League football for a few months, too.

The problem was, Ligue 1 clubs who perform above their expectations – as Monaco found out in the summer – are often raided for their best and brightest stars. Top scorer Moussa Sow and Gervinho were swept away to Fenerbahce and Arsenal respectively, and while Eden Hazard stayed on for another season before joining Chelsea, Cole’s side could only finish third in defence of their title.

He wasn’t the only English player to make the trip to France on loan around that period of time. Joey Barton spent a season in Marseille, offending some and endearing himself to others for a year on the south coast: he made life interesting in Ligue 1 and seemed to take nicely to life in the country, though a move back to London and relegated QPR brought him back to England with a bump.

There’s an odd list of British players after the 1980s – when English clubs were banned from European competition and plenty of players went to ply their trade abroad – joining foreign clubs. That is, they’re never young and hungry players aiming to learn as much as they possibly can about the world and take in new footballing cultures which can help them for the rest of their careers. Instead, the likes of Cole and Barton may well have benefitted from joining clubs like Lille and Marseille a decade earlier.

But that’s might well be changing, or at least in the short term.

One of the more interesting transfer stories of the summer was Jadon Sancho, the very highly-rated young English winger, who joined Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City. Sancho left the club after becoming frustrated with the lack of assurances over his inclusion in the first team and his chances of getting minutes on the pitch in this Pep Guardiola team. And so he joined Dortmund, who have a reputation around the world for giving young talent a chance.

In fairness to Manchester City, Sancho is only 17 which means he shouldn’t necessarily be getting first team football by now anyway. But whilst the rest of England’s U17 World Champions were busy beating Brazil in the final, Sancho was dragged back to Germany early by his club because they wanted him to play a role in the first team: but you can’t imagine he was too disappointed by that, playing first team football is exactly what he wanted and what he probably needs, at least in the future.

The difference between Sancho and players like Cole and Barton and even, to a lesser degree, Oliver Burke who spent a season with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga last season, is that Sancho is gaining a footballing education in more than just one country, learning more than one culture, and pitting himself against the kinds of teams, tactics and strengths he’ll likely face in the Champions League and in international games in the future. But what he isn’t doing is joining a foreign club on loan for a year-long holiday. He’s there to work.

Certainly others should follow that lead. It may well be that they, like Burke, can’t settle, and it might be, like Barton, they’re asked to come back. But looking at Cole, who played 12 times for Aston Villa and 22 times for Coventry City upon returning to England before joining the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the lower leagues in the States, you get the feeling that his 32 league games in one season in France was the most productive time of his career post-Chelsea.

If others follow that route and are able to broaden their footballing horizons by spending time abroad that isn’t just a season in the sun, then English international football will benefit from a few more worldly players.

Man Utd will be forced to cough up for Evan Ferguson transfer as key Brighton contract detail is revealed

Manchester United may have to pay a substantial transfer fee if they want to sign striker Evan Ferguson from Brighton next summer.

Evan Ferguson recently signed new Brighton contractDeal reported to have no release clauseMan Utd heavily linked with 19-year-old strikerWHAT HAPPENED?

Ferguson signed a new contract with Brighton earlier this month until 2029, with The Athletic now reporting that the fresh deal does not include a release clause. That means there is no fixed transfer fee to prise him away, essentially protecting the Seagulls and allowing them to ask for anything they want.

Lacking depth up front with only Anthony Martial as an alternative to 20-year-old Rasmus Hojlund, Manchester United have been heavily linked with Ferguson. The 19-year-old Republic of Ireland international scored a 42-minute hat-trick against Newcastle in early September and is tipped to become one of the Premier League's top strikers in the next few seasons. Ferguson's recent new contract was his second in a matter of months as Brighton work fast to keep up with his growing status. Under no pressure to sell, the Seagulls managed to pry a British record £115 million ($144m) out of Chelsea for Moises Caicedo.

DID YOU KNOW?

Feguson has previously admitted that he was a Manchester United fan while growing up near Dublin: "I supported United as a boy. You had the [Wayne] Rooneys, the [Dimitar] Berbatovs and obviously Danny Welbeck. They've always had a good thing going with the striker."

WHAT NEXT FOR FERGUSON?

Just 11 games into 2023-24, Ferguson is already on five Premier League goals and only one shy of matching his tally for the whole of his 2022-23 breakout season. An achievable aim would be to reach at least 10 in the league by the end of the campaign and perhaps be Brighton's top scorer across all competitions as well.

Is Harry Kane destined to be stuck at Spurs? England ace running out of transfer options already as Man Utd and Real Madrid look elsewhere

The Three Lions' captain is one of the game's great goalscorers, but he might struggle to secure a summer move to a club worthy of his talent

England's Manchester City contingent turned up for international duty last week looking a little worse for wear but with three more titles to their names. Harry Kane arrived with commemorative, custom-made vinyl records for all of his team-mates to thank them for the role they had played in him becoming the Three Lions' all-time leading goalscorer.

It rather nicely summed up Kane's situation right now. In the two years since Daniel Levy refused to sell the striker to City, Pep Guardiola's side have continued to add to their impressive tally of trophies. Kane hasn't let up either, though. He remains trophy-less, but his reputation as one of the world's best centre-forwards has only been enhanced by the fact that he has continued to score freely for club and country – with his heroics at Tottenham particularly impressive.

After all, Erling Haaland won the Premier League Golden Boot, Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season after scoring a record-breaking 36 goals in his debut season in England – an undeniably outstanding achievement. However, was it really a more praiseworthy goalscoring feat than Kane netting 30 times for a terribly inconsistent Spurs team that finished eighth in the table having lost 14 of their 38 games?

It's hard not to wonder if Haaland would have enjoyed such a prolific campaign in north London – and whether Kane would have proven an even better fit for City's frontline than the Norwegian No.9. We'll never know, of course, and the worry now for Kane – and anyone that appreciates quality strikers – is that he may never get the chance to line-up for a club side truly worthy of his many talents.

Kane clearly remains one of the best attackers in world football, but recent developments in the transfer market appear to have significantly reduced the options available to him this summer…

Getty ImagesManchester United

While Kane was scoring two goals and creating another in England's rout of North Macedonia on Monday night, many United fans couldn't help but admit online that they would be overjoyed to see him strutting his stuff at Old Trafford on a weekly basis next season. There no longer appears any chance of that happening, though – and for pretty much the same reason that Kane failed to force through a move to Manchester in 2021.

Levy is still calling the shots at Spurs, which, let's be honest, is also a major source of frustration for the club's fans, who have seen their team go backwards since reaching the Champions League final four years ago through a combination of the chairman's parsimony and poor decision-making. The net result is that while the goals have continued to flow for Kane, his trophy drought shows no sign of ending anytime soon.

United, of course, have their own boardroom issues, but have, at least, shown real signs of promise and progress under new manager Erik ten Hag, who reportedly viewed Kane as the perfect striker to lead his attack in 2023-22. However, United have reportedly already given up on signing the England star because they do not believe themselves capable of meeting Levy's asking price.

Things could potentially change if a new owner arrives at Old Trafford this summer, but it's now understood that the Glazer family's sale of the club might not be concluded until next season – if at all. So, while it is believed that Kane favours a move to United above all other clubs, the deal looks dead in the water, with the club now looking at younger, more affordable alternatives.

AdvertisementGettyReal Madrid

The 'Kane-to-Madrid' story has been a real rollercoaster ride over the past few weeks. First, Karim Benzema suddenly put Florentino Perez on the look-out for a new No.9 after sensationally deciding to move to Saudi Arabia this summer – a decision so shocking that it reportedly raised both of Carlo Ancelotti's eyebrows. Talk of Kane transferring to the Bernabeu began in earnest.

But then Kylian Mbappe dropped a bombshell of his own by publicly confirming that he has no intention of extending his stay at the PSG beyond 2024. Basically, they need to sell him this summer to avoid losing him for nothing next year.

If Madrid are looking for the closest thing possible to a like-for-like replacement for Benzema, they should quite clearly pick Kane. They are both complete No.9s and share similar attributes. Kane would rather remain in his native England, but the presence of international colleague Jude Bellingham in the Spanish capital certainly would have made it easier for him to settle.

However, the whole world knows that if it comes down to a choice between Kane and Mbappe, there is only one winner. Madrid want Mbappe, and Mbappe wants Madrid – it's been that way for years. A transfer was always going to happen and it really is only a matter of when at this point. If it's this summer, there is zero chance of Kane joining too.

GettyParis Saint-Germain

But what about Kane moving to Paris to replace Mbappe – or even play alongside the 24-year-old? After all, we know that Mbappe's preference has always been to play off a quality striker. Certainly, with Lionel Messi having been dumped in rather unceremonious circumstances, and speculation still swirling around Neymar, there will be room for at least one more superstar in PSG's attack for next season.

It's worth noting that this rumour is gaining serious momentum of late, with reporting on Monday that Nasser Al-Khelaifi has made Kane his primary transfer target. Their interest certainly makes sense, too. The Qatari-backed club are capable of paying a fee that is likely to be in excess of £100 million ($128m), and Levy would be open to selling Kane to an overseas club.

However, Kane would have his doubts about joining PSG – and they wouldn't just be related to living in another country or trying to learn a new language. There is just so much uncertainty surrounding PSG right now, even beyond Mbappe and his incessant contractual drama. Christophe Galtier is still technically the head coach yet he is believed to be a dead man walking. What's worrying, though, is that no replacement has yet been lined up, with Luis Enrique the latest name being tipped to take over at Parc des Princes after the club failed to reach an agreement with Julian Nagelsmann.

Given Kane knows all about the pain of playing for a crisis club, it's unlikely that he'd want to join another.

GettyChelsea

With that in mind, what chance do Chelsea have of persuading Kane to join a free-spending club that makes PSG look relatively prudent by comparison?!

One can certainly understand the Blues' interest. The idea of reuniting new manager Mauricio Pochettino with Kane is certainly appealing. The pair enjoyed an excellent working relationship and still speak very fondly of one another. Todd Boehly & Co. have also shown a willingness to spend mad money on players, meaning they could try to make Levy an offer even he couldn't refuse.

But it just seems too far-fetched. As Ian Wright recently told , "It's the only thing Spurs fans wouldn't be able to deal with – Kane going to Chelsea." Levy would essentially be writing a resignation letter if he agreed to let Tottenham's beloved son join their second-most hated rivals.

It wouldn't even make sense from Kane's perspective, either. Granted, he would get to remain in London and continue his pursuit of the Premier League's all-time goals record. However, Chelsea aren't even in the Champions League next season, and for all the talent they've stockpiled last summer, it's still impossible to say whether they'll become serious title challengers in 2023-24 just because they'll now have Pochettino at the helm.

A reta final do Campeonato Brasileiro, definitivamente, chegou.
