Harshit Rana missing Gambhir's 'aura' at KKR

He said that while KKR’s staff have been able to create a good environment in IPL 2025, he has missed Gambhir’s presence

Pujara: ‘Uncertain’ KKR not the force that they were in 2024

Harshit Rana, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fast bowler, has said that he is missing the “aura” and “thrill factor” that Gautam Gambhir brought to the franchise last year.KKR won the IPL 2024 title with Gambhir, their former captain, playing a prominent role in the coaching staff in his capacity as a ‘mentor’. He left the franchise when he took up his current role as India’s head coach last July, and was effectively replaced by Dwayne Bravo, who has the same job title.Abhishek Nayar has also returned to KKR this season after leaving his position as India’s batting coach, while Chandrakant Pandit remains their head coach.”The support staff is basically the same and even Nayar is back,” Harshit said. “But yeah there was a thrill factor that I miss a little – speaking just for myself, not anyone else. But it’s nothing like that. It’s all the same, Chandu [Pandit] sir, Nayar , Bravo. We are getting the kind of environment we want.”There have been changes of course since [Nayar] returned, because he has a very smart mind. He reads the game very well. And the Indian core of our team, he knows them very well. He only has helped develop them over many years. So, it helps us that he is back and it feels good.”Related

Abhishek Nayar returns to KKR's backroom staff

Harshit, who was retained as an uncapped player ahead of November’s mega auction, has made his India debuts in all three international formats in the past six months, playing under Gambhir. He said that while KKR’s support staff have been able to create a good environment this year, he has missed Gambhir’s presence. When asked to elaborate on what Gambhir had brought to the dressing room, Harshit said: “I wasn’t talking about anything personal. But you also know, he has an aura in the way he carries the team forward. I was just talking about that.”Harshit is KKR’s joint-highest wicket-taker this season, with 11 in nine appearances. Born and raised in Delhi, he will be playing at what is normally his home ground on Tuesday night. He also confirmed that he is fit and available for selection after grazing his left elbow while attempting to take a catch during KKR’s no-result against Punjab Kings on Saturday.KKR sit seventh on the points table after nine matches with three wins, five defeats and a no-result, and must beat Delhi Capitals on Tuesday to keep any realistic playoff ambitions alive.

Noor overtakes Prasidh to move to the top of IPL 2025 Purple Cap table

Sai Sudharsan and Gill continue to be the one-two at the top of the Orange Cap table

Will Brevis and Noor be central to CSK’s plans next season?

Purple Cap tableNoor Ahmad finished his season with 24 wickets from 14 matches after taking 3 for 21 in CSK’s last league game to go clear at the top of the table. Noor has one more wicket at this stage than Prasidh Krishna of GT, who picked up 2 for 22 and now has 23 wickets from 14 innings. For Prasidh, though, there are more games left in the competition with GT having progressed to the playoffs, unlike is the case with CSK.Prasidh’s team-mate, R Sai Kishore, moved to No. 5 after his 1 for 23 from two overs took his tally to 17 wickets from 14 games. Varun Chakravarthy of KKR also has the same number of wickets from 13 innings after he went wicketless in Delhi on Sunday – he had figures of 0 for 54 from his three overs as SRH blasted their way to 278 for 3. Varun slid down to No. 6 as a result.Mumbai Indians’ (MI) Trent Boult, who has 19 wickets and is at No. 3, and Josh Hazlewood of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is at No. 4 with 18.Orange Cap tableDespite a 83-run loss in Ahmedabad, GT openers B Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill continued to be the one-two at the top of the Orange Cap table. Chasing CSK’s mammoth 230 for 5, GT were skittled for 147. Sai Sudharsan was still their top-scorer, having made 41 off 28, and took his overall tally to 679 runs from 14 matches, while Gill, who fell for a nine-ball 13, remained second with 649 runs.MI’s Suryakumar Yadav, Mitchell Marsh of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Yashasvi Jaiswal of Rajasthan Royals (RR) round off the top five while Virat Kohli of RCB, currently No. 6 with 548 runs, gas a great shot to move up the table. Here’s what ESPNcricinfo’s MVP table looks like. And here are some other IPL 2025 tables that show the season’s best performers in different aspects of the T20 game. Newcastle now preparing to launch £60m+ offer to sign "underrated" midfielder

Following the success of Nick Woltemade, Newcastle United are reportedly preparing to spend big once again to sign an impressive midfield star in 2026.

Newcastle's 2026 transfer plans

The Magpies have unfinished business in the transfer market. The majority of their summer window was spent searching for much-needed strikers before Yoane Wissa and Woltemade both arrived to replace the firepower of Alexander Isak. Now, with that problem solved, the Magpies have the chance to think about improvements elsewhere.

Just what that could entail is the big question. The transfer rumours are already coming thick and fast, with ambitious moves for the likes of Julian Brandt and Arda Guler mooted. The latter would be a particularly impressive signing, but given how he’s burst into life under Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid, there’s no doubt that it would be a difficult one to get over the line.

Whoever arrives should be keen to follow the Woltemade path. The towering striker has scored three goals in six games and has already earned the praise of manager Eddie Howe more than once.

The Newcastle boss told reporters in the build-up to Newcastle’s 4-0 thrashing of Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League: “We’re very pleased to have Nick with us. I think he’s started very strongly in what has been a difficult period for him because he’s been thrust straight into action with no training time of note with us.”

Adding further creators around the German should now be among Newcastle’s top priorities when 2026 arrives and that could yet see a big-money midfielder arrive.

Newcastle preparing £60m+ Sancet offer

According to reports in Spain, Newcastle are now preparing a €70m (£61m) offer to sign Oihan Sancet from Athletic Club in 2026. The midfielder reportedly has a release clause of €80m (£70m) in his current deal and the Magpies plan to get close to that with their first offer.

"Stupid" – £150k-a-week Newcastle star slams "weird" news on Magpies teammate

He wasn’t impressed.

ByCharlie Smith Oct 2, 2025

Those at St James’ Park reportedly see Sancet as the perfect player to partner Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes at the heart of Howe’s midfield, but it remains to be seen whether they’ll match his release clause to skip any negotiations with Bilbao in 2026. Looking at the numbers, it’s clear to see the talent that they would be signing.

Whilst Sancet isn’t as combative as Joelinton, he would offer Newcastle a fresh goalscoring outlet from midfield. It’s the one trait that the Magpies occasionally lack in the middle of the park, but something that the Bilbao star would provide after netting 15 goals in La Liga last season.

Dubbed “underrated” by analyst Ben Mattinson, Newcastle should do everything to sign Sancet if the opportunity arrives in 2026. The Spaniard would take Howe’s midfield to yet another level.

Ange Postecoglou brutally sacked by Nottingham Forest MINUTES after full-time in Chelsea defeat as ruthless owner Evangelos Marinakis swings the axe after just eight games

Ange Postecoglou has been sacked as Nottingham Forest manager – just minutes after his side’s 3-0 Premier League defeat against Chelsea ensured they failed to win any of their eight games under his stewardship. The Australian was only appointed as Nuno Espirito Santo’s successor in September but owner Evangelos Marinakis is now looking for his third head coach in a season which promised so much following the club’s return to European football.

Postecoglou pays the price for failing to win in sorry Forest spell

Forest’s loss at the hands of Chelsea proved to be Postecoglou’s final match in a tumultuous spell in charge of the club. Despite calving out goalscoring opportunities through Elliot Anderson and Morgan Gibbs-White, with substitute Igor Jesus later hitting the crossbar, the hosts were punished for their profligacy in front of goal by Chelsea trio Josh Acheampong, Pedro Neto and Reece James. The result meant Forest failed to taste victory in any of their eight games in all competitions under Postecoglou, having also suffered defeats against Arsenal, Swansea City, Sunderland, Midtjylland and Newcastle. The club also earned two draws under Postecoglou – against Burnley and Real Betis – in a 39-day tenure which saw the 60-year-old manager face chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning" from Forest supporters following the 3-2 Europa League defeat by Midtjylland.

AdvertisementForest confirm Postecoglou has been sacked following latest loss

And with owner Marinakis having left in the middle of the second half against Chelsea, Postecoglou has now been relieved of his duties. In a statement released in the immediate aftermath of Forest’s latest defeat, the club said: “Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The Club will make no further comment at this time.”

How Forest players discovered Postecoglou had been sacked

According to , Postecoglou spoke to the Forest players for the final time after the Chelsea game, delivering his post-match team talk before leaving the City Ground carrying a bag. The players were then escorted out of the dressing room and up to the boardroom as they were told the news that the former Tottenham manager had been relieved of his duties. Before learning that Postecoglou had been sacked, midfielder Gibbs-White – speaking to shortly after the final whistle – had said the Forest squad were all behind the embattled head coach, despite the club's poor run of results.

Postecoglou delivered impassioned defence of record before exit

In an impassioned defence of his managerial record, citing how he ended Tottenham’s 17-year drought with victory in last season’s Europa League before being dismissed in June, Postecoglou was positive about his chances of keeping his Forest post in the build up to the Chelsea game.

"The flip side is I'm really still excited about the opportunity here,” said Postecoglou in a pre-match press conference. “That's how I'm embracing it. I have a group of young players who are willing to change, that's the first thing. I'm heading down that road. The rest of it? I'm not going to waste my time or my energy worrying about that. Whether it's internal or external I couldn't care less. At the end of the day, I will do what I think is the right thing to do to bring success to this football club and that's what I'm focused on. Of course there's pressure.

"There's pressure anyway. So if we win on the weekend, the pressure is there. There's always pressure. There's a difference between pressure and saying that somebody should lose their job after five weeks. I mean, I only just found an apartment to move into, which may be a bad decision on my behalf. I should have stayed in temporary digs. That's how early it is. So there's a difference."

O jogo

Liverpool battling Man Utd to sign "amazing" gem likened to N'Golo Kante

Liverpool are interested in completing the signing of an “amazing” player compared to N’Golo Kante, with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal also in the mix.

Wharton in and Konate out at Liverpool?

The Reds continue to be linked with new signings in between the summer and January transfer windows, with Crystal Palace and England midfielder Adam Wharton emerging as a strong option of late, and earlier this year for that matter.

The 21-year-old has stood out as one of the most exciting English talents around, displaying maturity beyond his years in a deep-lying role for Palace, and Liverpool could consider him an ideal person to add depth and class in the middle of the park.

While Wharton could be a future addition at Anfield, Ibrahima Konate is still being mentioned as a target for Real Madrid, with the Frenchman not yet signing a contract extension with the Reds.

It has been claimed recently that the European giants are confident of enticing the 26-year-old to the club by next summer, at which point he will be able to leave the Premier League champions on a free transfer.

Liverpool batting Man Utd to sign "amazing" Ajax ace

According to a new report from TEAMtalk, Liverpool are “keeping tabs” on Ajax youngster Jorthy Mokio, with the 17-year-old one of the Dutch club’s most exciting youth products in years.

The Belgian is also wanted by all of the other so-called ‘big six’ clubs – Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham – and he is capable of shining as both a defensive midfielder and a centre-back. It is claimed that he is “already a name reverberating across European football”, such is his potential.

Mokio feels like such a huge prospect, having already made 21 appearances for Ajax at the age of just 17, also being capped once for Belgium at senior level and representing them in five different youth age groups.

The midfield ace is described as a cross between N’Golo Kante and Declan Rice in the report, who also say his robust style is “built for the Premier League”, which is enormous praise, and scout Jacek Kulig has described him as an “amazing” player.

Liverpool always need to be looking at the most exciting talent around, ensuring that the club continue to head in a positive direction and not rest on their laurels, with United a prime example of how not to build on past success over the last decade or so.

If the Reds were able to sign Mokio from Ajax in the near future, it would be another statement of intent by the club, showing their rivals that they are the most appealing proposition to the best young players in the game currently.

Tom Lammonby hundred seals the deal for Somerset

A superbly judged unbeaten century by Tom Lammonby helped Somerset maintain their excellent form with a seven-wicket defeat of Durham in the Rothesay County Championship match at the Banks Homes Riverside. The victory moves Lewis Gregory’s side up to fourth in the Division One table, although most of the other games in this round have yet to finish.Resuming on 71 for one and needing 194 more runs to clinch their third victory in succession, Lewis Gregory’s batsmen encountered few problems on a pitch where 31 wickets had fallen in two days.Instead, they reached their target in mid-afternoon having lost only two wickets on this third day. Lammonby finished on 104 not out and Tom Abell, with whom he had put on an unbroken 139 for the fourth wicket, was unbeaten on 73.Yet Durham had enjoyed the perfect start to the morning when Gregory, was caught behind by Ollie Robinson off Ben Raine for 38 in the second over of the day. But Lammonby and the new batsman, James Rew made light of that setback by adding 55 runs in 15 overs and seizing on some wayward bowling by the callow Durham seamers.Just before noon, Alex Lees brought on Colin Ackermann to bowl his off-spin from the Lumley End and this change brought a much needed breakthrough for the home side when Rew, who had looked in little trouble while making 31, chipped a half-drive straight to Lees, himself, at short extra cover. That wicket left Somerset on 128 for three but it did not halt the visitors’ steady progress towards their target. Lammonby became only the second batsman in the match to make a half-century, reaching that landmark off 70 balls and having hit five boundaries, and Durham’s need for further wickets was made plain when Raine and Mitch Killeen were brought back into the attack around 40 minutes after they had been taken off. Those bowling changes made no difference. Lammonby and Abell continued their steady accumulation, maidens were rarities and Somerset reached lunch on 174 for three, 91 short of their target, with Lammonby on 65 not out and Abell unbeaten on 20.Five overs into the afternoon session Durham threw away a faint chance to salvage the game when Lammonby was dropped on 69 by James Minto off Daniel Hogg at deep square leg, the 17-year-old shelling a straightforward chance after the ball had been pulled straight to him. That escape seemed to energise the Somerset batsmen and the remaining 70 runs came quickly. Lammonby took three fours off a Minto over and soon after reached his century off 149 balls, having hit a dozen fours. Shortly afterwards, Abell reached his fifty off 122 balls and victory was confirmed when Abell clipped Killeen through midwicket for a final boundary. On a tough day for Durham’s bowlers, Raine finished with one for 50, Ackermann one for 40 and Killeen one for 67

Tottenham now ready to splash out £250m+ to sign two new Real Madrid stars

Already thinking ahead to next summer, Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly readying their biggest ever move to sign not one, but two Real Madrid stars for Thomas Frank.

Frank praises Tottenham for "massive" win at Leeds

It was far from routine, but Tottenham got over the line at Elland Road to defeat Leeds United courtesy of Mohammed Kudus’ first Premier League goal for the club. The summer signing cut inside before firing home beyond Karl Darlow just before the hour mark, as his side picked up what Frank described as a “massive” win.

Speaking to reporters, the Tottenham boss said in his post-match reaction: “It’s a massive win, honestly, a massive win. I just felt it before the game. Every game we want to win.

“Every game is a big three points, but before today, I just felt, three draws (Bodo/Glimt, Wolves, Brighton), plus the game before the international break, where we haven’t been able to win for a couple of years, for whatever reason.

“Then it’s Leeds away – they hadn’t lost here for over a year. It’s a difficult, difficult away ground, fantastic fans – and our fans, by the way, how good were they? Wow. Thanks so much for that.”

Agbonlahor says Frank should be worried about Tottenham star who gives "zero"

The pundit claims he can’t be relied upon.

ByEmilio Galantini Oct 4, 2025

The Dane isn’t wrong in his verdict, either. After winning just one of their last four heading into the Leeds game, Spurs needed to pick themselves back up and get back to winning ways.

Now sitting as high as third in the Premier League and just two points behind leading North London rivals Arsenal, Tottenham have so far given themselves every chance of pulling off an incredible transfer deal next summer.

Tottenham readying £250m+ Valverde and Vinicius moves

It would be the biggest move in their history, but one that they eyed when relieving Daniel Levy of his duties. According to reports in Spain, Tottenham are now readying a €300m (£261m) move to sign Federico Valverde and Vinicius Junior next summer in a double deal for two Real Madrid stars.

They would both be transformative signings. The type that could finally bridge the gap from top four hopefuls into conversations for the top honours. Although there remain serious question marks over their ability to attract such stars.

Vinicius, alone, is one of Europe’s top stars. By the time that next summer arrives, he’ll have one year remaining on his Real Madrid deal and a form will be queuing for his signature. Spurs, despite all their efforts, are likely to be closer to the back of the line than the front.

That said, the Brazilian’s long-term future is certainly in question as his contract ticks down. Madrid, however, should do everything to keep hold of a player that former manager Carlos Ancelotti described as “decisive”.

The same, meanwhile, can be said for midfield star Valverde, who earns a staggering £280,000-a-week at the Bernabeu.
